Hopefully I'll be back on OS and gaming on XBL next weekend though, even in the pain killer haze.

Sweet bro! Have fun at Disney World!

Have fun Johnny. I am taking my wife and kids to WDW the end of July, first of August. They have never been and it's funny seeing who is more excited the wife or kids. Enjoy it and talk to you when you get back.

You are in for ungodly hot weather. I went one time at the end of July beginning of August and got a sunburn that blistered from shoulder to shoulder. I went in 2005 in the middle of August and when I got off the airplance you could just feel the humidity. One night I walked from my hotel to McDonalds and back which was about 6 blocks each way. When I got back to the hotel I could have taken my shirt and wrung it out that's how much sweat it was filled with. Mind you this was at 10 o'clock at night.

It is pretty damn hot over there. My cousin lives 10 min away and we went for a day, just went on roller coasters and what not. It was a lot of fun, and I was like 16 at that time, I can just imagine how much fun it would be for a little kid.

hey Johnny - have a great trip.. Disney rocks, even for the "older" crowd.. heck, my honeymoon right now is being planned as a Disney cruise/WDW visit in 2 years.. also go on a regular basis with my buddy & his wife.. but the key to the whole thing? just getting away for a spell!

Is that gum surgery? I had that it was pretty easy, they just rip some skin from the top of your mouth and then graph it on.

The best is the Rockn' Roll Rollercoaster. The Tower of Terror is decent. The lines are ridiculous for all the rides. We had a hour and a half wait for the Rockn' Roll Rollercoaster. We were first ones on Splash Mountain so we get a free picture of us on the ride and a chance to cut in line on any other ride, which was awesome. I plan on going again this year, we were about to go last year but decided not to. It is a lot of fun, it is so damn big though. I want to go to Animal Kingdom, never got a chance to do that. That's on my to do list for this summer.

lol - LOVE the Tower! Last time I went on it, I made two women scream their heads off.. we get to the bottom, lights come on, & then I say "Time to go upside down now".. these women started freaking out.. The cool thing about that ride was that each time I went on it that day, the ride was different (terms of # of drops & stuff)...

Animal Kingdom is cool - especially the safari ride.. Also was a big fan of the Dinosaur ride (The Rapids ride is guaranteed to get you soaked).. They were building the new coaster there last time I was there (the Himayala one)..

ps- gotta throw this is... my bud & I took a trip to the Wide World of Sports.. The Braves minor leaguers were taking on the Indians minor league squad at the time.. We started walking down to the different fields when the Braves players were walking back to the clubhouse.. Didn't understand at the time why some were giving us looks, but then it hit me. I was wearing a Met shirt, my bud a Yanks... but we actually got to talk to a few of them, so it turned out well (can't recall any names though).....

That's the cool thing about the Tower, it's different. You won't always go the same route. I really like it, but i'm more fast roller coasters. Space Mountain was cool too because it was so dark and you couldn't see a thing.

I went to the Wide World of Sports and saw the Orlando Rays play, should've had a foul ball but the thing hit off the barrier and landed in a puddle right next to some guy.

While it will be be hot and humid it's really no different than here in St Louis, infact the actual temperature gets hotter here in the summer than in Orlando. Plus you can normally count on a brief afternoon shower everyday to help.

Looking forward to the new coaster in Animal Kingdom although I heard it is much like the Matterhorn at Disneyland. I would love to be able to get back to Islands of Adventure/Universal Studios but just do not think we are going to have the time and I do not really want to have to rent a car since we are staying on Disney grounds and all transportation is covered, including to and from the airport.

Re: See you guys in 10 days!

Well we just got back last night, and as I'm in loads of pain from my gum surgery and my feet still ache, I'll post some impressions. We hit all four parks, with three full days.

                            First, some advice:

-The spring season seems to be the best. The lines were no longer than 30 minutes (outside of Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom for the kiddie rides), the parks are open from 9 - 10 (with the exception of Animal Kingdom), and the weather, while hot (upper eighties and humid) has to be better than the weather in summer...not to mention the longer lines.

-The Disney Dining Plan is also a good deal. You get a counter meal (burgers, pizza, etc) a sit-down meal, and a snack for each day. Use ALL of your sit-down meals at Epcot at the international restaurants...you won't be disappointed. The plan was around $250 for four days each, but when you an sit down at the Moroccan place, order a $40 lamb shank, plus an appetizer, dessert, and a drink (total of around $60) the plan is worth it!

-Stay at the Value Resorts! While they are short on amenities, how much time do you really spend in the room? They all have bus transportation, a food court, and frankly, it's a decent room (albeit akin to a Motel 6) but for just sleeping and bathing it's fine!

-If your kids are 40" or more, then only one ride per park (give or take) is off limits. My son was right at the line, and some ride operators had no issues with it, but others were punks.

                            Now for the parks:

                            Animal Kingdom:
The Kilmanjaro Safari ride was really sweet! Well worth the price. The Everest coaster was the best coaster, IMO, and the surprise was quite unexpected.

The also have a lot of shows and animal exhibits (the 3D Bugs Life show was pretty cool) but the weakest of the four parks for sure.

                            Disney/MGM Studios:
Not a lot there other than shows, but the "Beauty and the Beast" stage show was nice, as was the "Great Movie Ride". You also have the old stand-by of "Star Tours" which still rules, as well as the awesome but short Aerosmith coaster and the Tower or Terror.

Also, be sure to stay for Fantasmic, but get there early...it fills up FAST!

                            Epcot:
The best food in Walt Disney World! I did the beer tour of all 11 nations, as well as some fine dining in Morocco and Japan. When we go back we'll likely use the large majority of our meals there (a short monorail ride from Magic Kingdom).

They also have some good rides in Soarin' Over California (from California Adventure), the GM Test Track (an infomercial for GM but a cool ride), and Mission Space (take the Orange Team). The new Nemo ride is pretty neat for the kiddies, and Turtle Talk with Crush is one of the most innovative attractions ever (Magic Kingdom has the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor which is similar).

                            Magic Kingdom:

The old stand by is still the best, but they need to bring over the Matterhorn and Indiana Jones from Disneyland. The new additions to Pirates of the Caribbean make the ride weaker, IMO (not as cheesey and lighthearted) and the one in California seems longer. The Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain (not yet renovated like Cali), Splash Mountain, and the Buzz Lightyear ride are all sweet.

All in all, a great trip! Can't wait till we can get back (though I think I prefer the two parks out west).

EDIT: The dinosaur ride nyisles mentioned at Animal Kingdom scared the bejesus out of my son. It's like a poor man's Indiana Jones, is real dark, and has a LOT of thrilling moments for youngsters. He was kind of scared to get on other rides, though he enjoyed them once we made him go. NOT suggested for young kids.

Glad you had a good time, Johnny. I love Disneyworld, so color me jealous. I'm hoping the family puts a trip together in October of this year.

One question though - you mentioned the Space Mountain in Cali is renovated. What'd they do to it?
                              Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

Excellent question. I'd like to know as well. When I was a kid, I wanted to ride Space Mountain so bad because Ric Flair was always on TV, talking about his Space Mountainettes, and how they "rode Space Mountain ALL NIGHT LONG!"

If only I knew then that he wasn't really talking about the ride at Disney World. I'll bet my dad got quite the laugh out of me saying, "Hey dad, I wanna ride Space Mountain all night long, too!"
