Torn ACL - Out for 3-6 weeks

Well, I guess this news is a bit old. Partially tore my ACL (right knee) and had to have reconstructive surgery on it.

So now I'm out for at least a month. Surgery was last week, so the swelling and pain is pretty much down but still there. In the midst of starting rehab.

Anyone ever go through the same thing? Any suggestions? I'm currently icing the knee to keep the swelling down and keeping it above heart level while stretching the leg out to make sure I don't lose any flexibility.

Appreciate any advice.

Just take it easy and don't try to get up too much.

Completely tore my ACL, PCL, MCL, and lateral meniscus playing bball.. I don't know how a partial tear compares surgery wise... but they gave me a continuous motion machine to keep my knee in constant movement. The only time it wasn't moving, was when icing it every 30 minutes. On 30 minutes, off 30 minutes.

My suggestion bro is to just keep it moving, although it hurts like hell... and keep it iced every 30.

Yep.

I don't really have any real advice for you. Just do what the doctor and the physical therapist says, and you'll be fine.

For me it was about a week and a half before I could walk without crutches, 6 weeks until I didn't have to wear the brace they gave me, 4 months until I could run, and after 6 months I was playing sports again.

I tore my ACL last July. Welcome to the club pal. You're in for a hell of a recovery.




EDIT: Partial tear huh? I completely tore my ACL in my right knee and they had to take out a muscle in my hamstring as a replacement for it. You're looking at a lot of rehab, not as much as you would endure if it were a full tear so I'm kinda envious. Anyway, best of luck.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I was finally able to get to the computer last night. Very difficult to move. It was full reconstructive surgery, so I guess partial tear or not I'm on the road for a similar recovery. It amazes me how many people have done this now that I've talked to them about it. Everyone knows someone who has gone through something similar.

I'm confident I'll be back to the way I was... BTW, I injured it playing bball. Came down wrong, I guess you could say.

I just got an MRI yesterday for me knee, doctors think I hurt my meniscus playing basketball. Hasn't hurt me in a couple weeks though, so I'll just wait until they see the results.

Yea, from what I've heard it doesn't really matter whether its a partial or full tear most of the time. All it takes is a small tear to make the acl useless. Actually, I don't think my doctor even ever told me whether it was a partial or full tear.

Yeah, tore mine all up, similar to WTF, playin' bball.

Seems he and I went through the same routine. I also went through quite a few weeks of physical therapy, but it wasn't as bad as people claim.

Jets had it easy, I couldn't really run for at least a year. Even then the next day it was sore as hell. Can't wait to start ballin' again, the appendectamy I just had calls for another week and a half off. Although I played yesterday w/ not many issues.
