    Jury Duty Help!

So I just got summoned for Jury Duty...great. Anyway, I live 180 miles from my parents house, where the "duty" is supposed to take place. My mom just told me about it since they have been on vacation and just got back yesterday. I have to serve Monday if I get called. I faxed them a reason why I couldn't make it (school, job, and the fact that I live 180 miles away) but it might to late.

Has anybody just not shown up for jury duty? What happens if your group gets called and you just pull a no-show? HELP!

If you pull a no-show and your name is called a warrant will be issued for you arrest. My dad's lawyer told him and me never no-show jury duty.

Yep, he's right. I'd try calling tomorrow, and get this straightened out if at all possible. Good luck!

        come one...

I'd assume that skipping jury duty is so common that most of the time they just move on, highly doubtful that you'd get a warrant out on you and all that. There's no real way they can ensure you even get the letter through the cheap postage they use for that kind of stuff. Just call them tomorrow just to check.

I got out of it twice, and they've never summoned me since. They go the message. I actually found out that many counties expect no shows, so they send out more summons than needed. That's why if you ever do go, you usually sit around until they tell you to go.

I tried calling and she said that I needed to submit the proper paperwork. She seemed like a real b****. Anyway, I'm hoping its not too late since I just submitted my paperwork today and I'm supposed to find out on Monday.

I got summoned 2 months ago. I tried to get out of it due to my job and not wanting to miss the time. I never received notice if I could postpone it until after I went ahead and took the day off work to go to jury duty. I received a notice about 3 weeks ago letting me know that my service has been postponed to a later date. Thanks for letting me know before I already and appeared for the original date. I've gotten my $6 jury service check in the mail last week. Had to report to one of the courthouses downtown Dallas. The ish last all freaking day!

I go in for jury duty tomorrow, actually.

I'm hoping, since they're making me go, that they either let me go home quickly, or that they give me an interesting, one-day trial. If they make me hang around for three+ hours only to tell me "Don't need you, sorry" I'll be upset.

I had jury duty a couple of years ago. It was actually pretty easy. I think I was stuck with one of the least active courts in Kenton County though. Anyway, call as soon as you can to straighten it out, like people have said. Do not no-show. When they were going through the selections in court, people would come up with all kinds of excuses to try and get out of it. Some legit, but you could tell some weren't. I think yours would qualify as pretty darn legit.

I'm not pissed about going to jury duty. I'm pissed that I live 180 miles away and have to drive to go, if I indeed end up getting to go.

You will be excused, but the issue is if you will get excused in time or not. I was in college when I got selected for Federal Jury Duty, but it was during the summer so I was home. All you have to do is show proof that you don't live in the District/Federal area at the time.

That was the only time I've gone. I've been summoned for Local, but I've just sent a letter stating I work out of state for the most part, so they have removed my name from the pool.

Like everyone else said, just hope that paperwork gets there and it gets excused in time. I'd definately call them again and see if you can get an update on it.

I went in for jury duty last year, had to drive about 40 miles to get to mine (hadn't updated my info for my college address). It wasn't too bad, because the guy didn't show up for his trial and they didn't have an alternate case for whatever reason. We all got to go hom by 9 am.

Tell them you're dating and 18 year old high school chick and you're 27. And then to top if off tell em you've been banging her for over a year, that'll prolly get you out of having to serve. LOL

I recieved jury duty notices 3 times. Each time you have to call the Sunday night before you are supposed to appear to find out if you need to be there or not. Each time I was told I am not scheduled to appear at this time. It was nice not having to go.

                              Your posts really suck.

I was summoned for jury duty last semester but told them that it would cause an undue hardship to miss classes and they were really understanding. I am sure they have had this occur before and you will be fine.
