Re: Jury Duty Help!
come one...
I'd assume that skipping jury duty is so common that most of the time they just move on, highly doubtful that you'd get a warrant out on you and all that. There's no real way they can ensure you even get the letter through the cheap postage they use for that kind of stuff. Just call them tomorrow just to check.
I got out of it twice, and they've never summoned me since. They go the message. I actually found out that many counties expect no shows, so they send out more summons than needed. That's why if you ever do go, you usually sit around until they tell you to go.
I don't know where you live, but where I live if they send that letter then you show up,plain and simple. Has far has the letter not getting to you, well that isn't much of an excuse, seeing has how they post the names of the people who are going to be on jury duty in the local newspaper. At least that's how they do it where I live. The three times I've been summoned there were a couple of people who didn't show up and the judge issued a bench warrant right there on the spot.
For the guy who lived 180 miles away, call the Superior court clerk where you have to serve the duty and explain the situation and they'll get it straightened out. But don't just blow them off. They will issue a warrant and though they may not get you that day,if something happens like you're in a traffic stop or something, that warrants in the system. I've seen it happen.Comment

Re: Jury Duty Help!
I go in for jury duty tomorrow, actually.
I'm hoping, since they're making me go, that they either let me go home quickly, or that they give me an interesting, one-day trial. If they make me hang around for three+ hours only to tell me "Don't need you, sorry" I'll be upset.Comment

Re: Jury Duty Help!
Eh...I would of just said you never got anything.
I actually forgot about 6 months ago and nothing ever happend to me. There is really no way for them to prove it. I wouldn't do it all the time, but sometimes you just forgot.Last edited by Brandwin; 06-05-2007, 03:59 PM.Comment

Re: Jury Duty Help!
Spent friday, from 7:30-4:15, at the court house after being selected to be one of fourteen jurors for a criminal case.
Had to go back yesterday for closing arguments and deliberation. Spent from 7:30-9:30 with the other jurors waiting for them to start the trial. Then from 9:30 until 10:45 listening to the arguments and then having the Judge explain the "law" to us.
And then? They are nice enough to inform us that two jurors will be randomly selected to be alternates, and will get the joy of sitting out in the hallway while the other twelve jurors deliberate.
I got that joy...so me and this other girl (who was my age and cute, and lives in the next town over from me and gave me her number) got to sit outside in the hall from 11-2 doing absolutely nothing. Then again, I did get a number so I guess I really shouldn't be complaining. Thanks jury duty.Comment

Re: Jury Duty Help!
He was charged with drug trafficing and failing to show up at a court date.
I would've voted not guilty and guilty, respectively, as there wasn't enough evidence to convict him of the first charge.
Luckily, that is how the jury voted, anyway.Comment
