    Do you floss?

I was just wondering, as it suddenly occured to me that I don't pick up the dental floss like I used to, even though I brush my teeth like after every meal, before I go out, and before I go to bed (sometimes I do it like six or seven times a day). I only ask this because I just went to the dentist and they floss your teeth for you and everything, and I just realized that I hadn't done it in a little bit. Nevertheless, my teeth are still healthy.

    Anybody else not floss?

    Re: Do you floss?

Only in extreme circumstances. I hate flossing with a passion. I had braces on my teeth when I was a kid, and the braces squeezed my teeth together too tightly. My retainer exacerbated the problem as it sqeezed my teeth even tighter together.

It is nearly impossible for me to floss as I have never found a floss that would not either break or get caught in my teeth to the point of extreme discomfort. Now whenever the dentist asks if I have been flossing I reply "**** you."
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did for a while after I got this floss tool thing that made it more tolerable, but now I have given up. I hate the way it makes my teeth feel. Never had a cavity so I don't think I'll start anytime soon.

I floss every other day or after eating something notorious for getting between your teeth (i.e. steak, pot roast, etc).

              Famous last words, friend!

That was my wife's logic and she recently had three over the last year.

                Re: Do you floss?

I try to floss at least 3-4 times a week and I usually am able to do that. I should be flossing every day, though.

Those of you that have healthy teeth and therefore blow off flossing, flossing is more to keep your gums healthy and remove bacteria, not clean your teeth. So, sure you could have no cavities without flossing, but your gums might not be healthy. If your gums bleed when you do floss, it means they're not healthy; healthy gums don't bleed. Having perfect teeth won't do any good if your gums recede; you could lose those perfect teeth! There are also new studies showing that there is a relationship with unhealthy gums and things like heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes, too:

My dentist always tells me, "floss the teeth you want to keep."

Now gum recession I KNOW! Mine was from two rounds of orthodontics, and I just had periodontal surgery to cover up the worst areas. It's not fun, and while mine was an unintended consequence of ortho, it's definately something you don't want to happen. I was told by two perio's that if I waited more than a year I would past the point of no return, and only by keeping those teeth in question "pristine" could I prevent future tooth loss.

Yes I floss every day. It's amazing the amount of crap that gets stuck in between your teeth especially the ones in the hard to reach places. I also go to my dentist every 6 mos for a cleaning.

I floss every single night. I don't know what your guys's dentist's procedure is but mine shows you how to floss. She hands me a mirror and then proceeds to floss my teeth with chicken wire until I nearly bleed to death.
