    Devastating....:(

Even one is a terrible loss, but considering the small size of this department in South Carolina....this is numbing.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I'm speechless. Absolutely speechless. To lose 9 brothers just like that. Can't imagine what the families must be going through.
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

were they trying to put it out or simply save lives?

i would honestly just let a furniture store burn if no lives were at risk. but to risk lives trying to save some store is a crazy line of work.

They had already pulled out four people and were continuing to knock down the fire and search for more victims.

Even if you have a vacant building....unless the building is a known and marked(if you live in NYC and you see a spray painted box....a box with one line or a box with two lines over the door of a vacant you will know what I mean) as a unsafe building...you have to check. Could be squatters in the building...you just can never assume that nobody is in there.
                  It's a tough one....they probably never knew what was coming(I hope )
I'll never forget the Father's Day fire here in N.Y.....it was before September 11th and we lost 3 brothers that day in a hardware store explosion. One of the guys was still alive and trapped in the basement. Listening to his radio transmissions as he lay dying was gut wrenching to say the least.
That department is in shock right now...it's horrible.
