it's late and i've got no place else to go

hate to be a bummer on the boards, but it's official...my fiancee' and i have split up. it's 11:30pm central time, i'm really upset, and i have nobody to talk to so i thought i'd vent. i've been trying to put this whole thing into perspective somehow, but i'm completely lost. i'm a guy, she's a girl, we're not going to be completely alike, are we? man, i just have a huge lump in my throat and i was dry heeving a few minutes ago. but now, i'm just sitting in the dark, looking for answers. things like this happen to people everyday, i think it's how people deal with it and bounce back is what makes the man am i right? i hope so. i'm crushed. "man-down" as my boys would say. this one really hurts, i don't think that i've ever endured anything like this, thought i was immune i guess. anyways, just typing b/c there's no one to talk to here. any thoughts guys? any words of wisdom?

btw, i'm a BIG quotes guy. could u guys post some inspirational quotes and the author that may relate to my situation, or just relate to the act of keeping on through tough times. Thanks in advance.

worst thing you can do is just hold everything in... if you have to cry... cry man. Whatever you need to do to help you get through things you should do.

As for quotes here are two...

And I shall find some girl perhaps, and a better one than you, With eyes as wise, but kindlier, and lips as soft, but true, and I daresay she will do.
Rupert Brooke

And another one...

When love is lost, do not bow your head in sadness; instead keep your head up high and gaze into heaven for that is where your broken heart has been sent to heal. ~Author Unknown

Alyssa Jones from 'Chasing Amy' said it best...

"She is such a **** (don't know if the "C" word is allowed)!"

I guess that sums it up!

Not sure how long you two were together, but just deal with your pain and grief for a while. Don't go and get wasted, hit the trashy bars, or the strip clubs...you'll likely feel guilty the next day. Just ride the wave, and eventually you'll start feeling better.

I hope you got the ring back though. I had a buddy who proposed and it later fell apart and the chick wouldn't give the ring back. He was out near three grand!

Hey man, sorry to hear this.. just wanted to say you sound very composed. That has to count for something, and it says something about your character. Anyway so there's no hope or chance that this is nothing more than a minor road block?

I broke up with my fiancee recently too. It was sort of mine/mutual decision but it still hurt. A lot.

I'm now in the strongest bond of a relationship I've ever had. No 'rebound' or anything either, just the most amazing month and a bit I've ever experienced, physically and mentally.

There is light at the end of every dark tunnel and usually, things happen for a reason. Cry and feel down because that is normal and needed. But definitely keep your chin up.

While it may be corny, cheesy, cliche, whatever, things happen for a reason. I too was in your situation at one point in life, and yeah it really stung when it happened. However, let me and others who have gone through it be your motivation that you can make it through as well. Without knowing circumstances or the like, let me say that my ex fiance and I just grew apart while I was away at school, and her in Tech school for the USAF. It did take some time to get over, but 5 years later I found my ultimate heal when I found my wife. I know you are going to feel numb and hurt for a while and it's perfectly normal. Just know that things can and will get better. I even went through another situation inbetween my ex fiance and wife, the only thing was we were not engaged. As for quotes, while I do not know the original author, here is one. "What does not kill us only makes us stronger."

I had a serious gf push me away just because I was at school. It sucked. My advice to you would to just take it easy a while. When you're used to having that someone always there for you it is tough to realize it's gone. Don't rush into anything man. Just focus on yourself and things you need to do. I would say for a little while you should let the rest of the world come to you.

Re: it's late and i've got no place else to go

I went through this about ten years ago.

It's not as bad as it appears. Do what I did. I got the ring back and bought a Mustang convertible. Don't dwell on it or wait by the phone...go out & live. You will really find out who you are during this time and you will grow as a person.

Or you will turn into a raging alcoholic like my friend did when he got dumped (he has never been the same guy I knew and it's been 15 years since she dumped him).

PS...I hear my ex is fat now. Bullet dodged...Whew!! lol

I think Winston Churchill said it best...when a woman remarked to him, "Sir, if you were my husband, I'd poison your drink", he replied, "Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it."

Here is the way I see it...you need to do two things:
1. Get drunk
2. Break some ****

I'm going through a very similar situation right now, too. We weren't engaged, but we were together for over two years and it's hard to let go. Thanks for all the advice, guys. It's helping a lot.
