My Field - the plastics industry has currently gone back on fire and companies are expanding. It's bizzaro.

Elsewise the job market is at an impass.

      Re: Job Market?

I've been having a similar problem since I graduated...back in 02. It's so bad that I've been a substitute teacher twice in that time when I went to school for Engineering. I have had this supposed resume specialist from Billings, MT look at my resume and we've made changes but I'm at a loss. My younger brother, who graduated last May in Engineering, gets interview after interview. It's a bit depressing really....

        Re: Job Market?

After a few months of searching for a new job, it all has finally paid off. I actually went on an interview for this non-profit company back in the middle of August and then about 1.5 weeks ago they called me for a final interview.

Today they called me with a job offer. It's exciting and nerve racking in the same sense since I have been working for the company where I'm at for 7 years.

This job search crap just sucks your life away and is like a full-time job.

Thanks, I'm a bit nervous starting somewhere new, but things have to happen to push my career forward. The drive is a bit longer about 36 miles one way.

I know you weren't happy with your current job. So it's good to make the switch if you feel comfortable and are happy. That's all that matters.

Yep. I've been looking for 8 months now and it does suck the life out of you. I've had a lot of interviews, but nothing has come through (either I didn't like the company, the salary or they didn't like me or my salary demands).

                      Congrats on the job, candyman!

Speaking of jobs, the EB I used to work at switched managers (the reason I quit/got fired was because of the manager), and the new manager said he might need some help in a month and I should work there. Easy money, but it depends on how I'm doing at school at the time, oh well..I always have Christmas money.

What are you going to be doing at your new job?

I agree searching for a job is almost like a full-time job in itself. Not only does it take a long time to write up a company specific cover letter but you also have to spend hours researching the company just in case they call you. You don't ever want to be caught off guard and basically give the impression you know nothing about the company you just applied for.

                          Thanks

I've been seriously looking since May and then really ramped up the searching back in July. A lot of the interviews that were coming my way I was either over qualified or there was some issue with salary.

I agree that when you have a job where you can sit back and take your time, then its worth it to find the right thing. Nobody was pushing me out of the company where I'm at, myself being unhappy is what has been pushing me out of there. As much as this has felt like it was taking forever, the place I'm going to I've heard nothing but good stuff since I know a few people working there and I felt excellent vibes when I was there for the interviews. We will see in a few weeks.

My title is going to be Manager of e-Journal Content. I will be working with an editorial staff to get text based pediatric journals and news posted to the web for clients. I will also be project managing projects with the vendors they have in place.

I fully agree that researching a company will help you go a long way in the interview process.

36 miles, ouch. My office is moving to Elgin which makes it 18 miles out instead of my normal 8-9. Guess I'm complaining for no reason. LOL

Hopefully you have a less commuted drive.

My drive right now is 19 miles to Burr Ridge. This job is in Elk Grove Village, so I'm coming from the Oak Forest area.

It will be a crazy commute, but once you have been there for a few months they offer telecommuting so I will try to talk my boss into allowing me to work from home even if it is for 1 day a week. I have a few friends that work at this place and they absolutley love it and they actually treat their employess well, they just won #3 Place to work at in the Chicagoland area out of 101 companies. I hope its true.

Funny to think that I go to work by foot - it's a 10 minute walk from where I live. Well, I'm moving soon so it'll be 12 miles away, but it's still very close
