    A random act of kindness

I am in Bloomington visiting my fiance' for the weekend and we went out to Denny's this morning to eat breakfast. We were seated right next to the cash register(prime location) and over heard a lady whispering to the cashier about paying her check.

I told my fiance' that I thought the lady was trying to tell the cashier that she forgot her wallet or something because she was being so quiet and didn't want anyone to hear what she was saying. After a few moments, the cashier rang out the lady and the lady thanked her and handed the cashier a napkin that had writing on it, and walked out.

My fiance' asked me what that was all about and I told her I didn't know. About 10 minutes later two troops in uniform come walking up to the cashier to pay their check. The cashier told them that it was taken care of. The troops were a little stunned by the comment and asked, "What do you mean? Our breakfast is on the house?" The cashier told them that a lady sitting near them had picked up their check.

The two troops were stunned and thanked her and were about to walk out when the cashier stopped them and handed them the napkin that the lady had given her. The one man looked at it and he had a saddened look on his face. The other troop asked what it said and the first man replied, "It says, God Bless and Thank You."

I know this may sound sappy or whatever, but it was great to see an appreciation for our troops, and the fact that a random act of kindness is still the greatest gift of all.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

        Good story.

I had someone pay for my meal one-time when I took my gf in high school out before prom at a ritzy restaurant. Someone paid simply because they thought we looked nice. It's nice to know that there are some truly generous people out there.

That's awesome. Reminds me of a good friend of mine (who was in my wedding). He's a former US Marine who served two tours in Iraq, right in the middle of things. Got a Purple Heart while he was there, as he took some shrapnel in his leg after an IOD went off near him.

Anyway, a day after he returned from Iraq from his 2nd and final tour, he and I went to a local dog adoption place because he decided he wanted a new pet. He picked out the dog and as he was filling out the paperwork, the woman working at this place noticed his military ID card in his wallet. She asked him if he was in the service, to which he replied he was a Marine who just got back from Iraq.

She told him that while she wasn't allowed to give dogs away for free, she would give him the dog and pay for it herself. He told her she didn't have to do that but she insisted.

It's always great to see civilians making an effort to let the troops of the US Military know that we appreciate what they're doing.
