    Wisdom teeth

Hey guys. So I've got to get my wisdom teeth out Wednesday, the 11th. They haven't caused me discomfort but I'm getting them out anyways. One side has impacted ones, one side doesn't.

So has anyone ever gotten these out before? Any tips on how to get better, deal with it, eat, drink? Anything at all?

    Thanks.

Eat a can of crushed pineapple before.

Follow the doctor's orders for after.

I stuck with mashed potatoes and eggs for the first day, and by the third day I was eating Mac and Cheese with hotdogs, pancakes. It only took five days for me to eat chicken alfredo.

Why eat a can of crushed pineapple before?

Helps prevent dry sockets. I forget what it is, but something in the pineapple (either crushed, or juice should work) helps strenghten your gums and helps the healing process.

I thought it was probably something like that.

Pineapples the night before? The doc said nothing 6 hours before the surgery, at 9 in the morning. And does it really hurt like hell?

              Yeah, the night before.

And everyone is different. Personally, I did not have any pain at all. I know people who had to stay in bed for three days because of pain. It's all different.

As long as you get some good painkillers it shouldn't be unbearable pain. You won't feel like you want to eat for the first couple of days, but before you know it you won't be able to even notice that your teeth are gone.

The actual procedure you'll feel nothing as you're drugged up and out cold (at least i was), but it was pretty uncomfortable waking up all groggy. Personally I couldn't open my mouth very much so I ate stuff like jello, mac n cheese and mashed potato.. very slowly. It was actually a pain because I couldn't eat any "real" food for quite a bit. I was hungry, but knew i couldnt really eat anything. I actually still had some pain 3-4 weeks later even though I was doing everything right. It's true that everyone is different.
                  I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can't

                    Re: Wisdom teeth

I actually had six teeth removed at the same time. Four wisdom and two molars. The molars needed to be removed because of movement with my teeth caused by braces years ago.

But anyway, don't suck on a straw, spit, or smoke! A condition known as dry socket can occur and from what I hear is very painful. Luckily I
                    didn't get this.

I got lucky or had a great oral surgeon. I had pretty no much pain. Took medication only after the surgery and swelling was low as well. Speaking of swelling, remember to ice your face as much as possible day 1-3. Day three the swelling will be the worst but will decline after that.

What else, follow your doctor's direction! And keep those extraction sites clean!

Eat soft foods. I pretty much stuck to mashed potatoes, KFC works good.

Just be careful on the drugs. I remember my brother coming home all drugged up. My stepmom tried to help him get up the stairs and that offended him. He yelled, "I can do it on my own I'm sixteen!". He then proceeded to sprint right at the steps forgetting to actually lift his feet up or make any attempt to actually climb them. The ensuing faceplant was hilarious. He also for some reason under his drugged up stupor thought his bloody gauze was the coolest thing in the world, he kept getting out of bed to try and show them to me. Annoyed the piss outta me.

It's a piece of cake. Don't worry about it. I never even took the pain meds they gave me because it wasn't very uncomfortable.

My advice, eat lots of soft stuff so that you don't get food stuck in the holes where your wisdom teeth were. I basically ate mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese and soup.
