That is a tragedy for those who died. However I must say it is a miracle this doesn't happen more often.

I would post a link to the video of one of the helicopters feed right as it crashed, but I'm not sure how people would feel about that. Some of the coverage has been kinda chilling in a way

I seen a pic of the choppers going down, that itself looked horrible.

I wonder this myself. With all the private aircrafts out there... This is just a sad story.

A sad story, but tragically it proves the "need" of local and national news organizations to create sensational stories out of typical and mundane situations.

How many car chases are covered ad nauseum, resulting in damage to innocent civilians on the roads and businesses? Why cover each one as if it's the slow crawl white Bronco chase?

I just think our whole "news" culture is blind to the real issues and instead focuses on quick stories to entertain the extremely short attention span of the average person.

The question is whether the local news organizations or other city news corps will alter their coverage after this...I think they should.

I can remember a few months ago at the gym, we have a bank of TVs in front of the treadmills. One was on CNN and another was on Fox News. Not to get political, Fox News broke into their normal news programing to cover some idiot in downtown LA going 25 mph on city streets with two police cruisers behind him. Fox had it covered from all angles. It was ridiculous. There was play-by-play of the whole chase. It was an interesting juxtaposition against CNN next TV over, they never broke away from the actual day's news.

P.S. I'm not saying that CNN is never guilty of sensationalism. Believe me they are. I am just saying at this point, the difference of two media outlets in priority of two stories were striking.

I saw on the news they are considering charging the runaway for a part in the deaths. Can't say I would be alright with that....quite ridiculous for their to be helicopters chasing this sort of thing anyway.

Re: PHOENIX - Helicopters crash while covering police pursuit

I work half a block where they crashed. It could have landed on top of my building. I had to leave early from work and it literally happened 5 minutes after I left. I heard a huge explosion and didn't know what happend. Got a call from my buddy at work and people that were out smoking witnessed the copters collide and crash landed.

What a trageic accident and those men though lost their lives crashed it into an open area of downtown phoenix. It could have crashed litterally into tall buildings onto mine and could have killed more people. Prayers out to the familys and collegues of these news crew.

On the news I watched that the police chief say they will try to blame the driver for the crash... as tragic as this is I don't think it would be right. If he caused a fatal crash on the ground between two cars it would be a different story.

Prayers go out to the families involved in this accident...

well yea, I'm not saying they weren't.

just kind of pointing out that is dumb for news channels to be following these car chases. Police choppers are one thing, two news choppers getting in the way is another story. If they crash, that is the risk they take. Just saying the driver can't be charged with the chopper crash.

that said, it is quite tragic

I don't know much about the Law, but I think he he can be charged. He was the one who started all this in the first place.

Don't see how he forced a crash several hundred feet off the ground.

He should be punished for whatever laws he broke but the helicopter crash shouldn't and won't be one.

First they need to investigate why the helicopters crashed. Pilot error possibility...

I agree. I don't see how you can charge a person driving a car for a helicopter crash.
