For those that have poison ivy....

I recently picked up some poison ivy after a week of camping, biking and fishin.
When I get this stuff, It usually sticks around a while, and I usually get it bad. I havent had the stuff since I was 11. This time I got most of it along my waist and my upper theighs. Not sure how the hell it got there.

Anyways- My wife told me the best thing to do to keep it from itching, is to get in the shower and turn the water on hot, and gradually get it up to as hot as it can get. I did this the other day, and let me tell you, I almost creamed in the shower. I seriously had that hot water from the shower going on my upper theighs and waist for a good 20 minutes. It was seriously like having a 20 minute orgasm. Its my new found glory.

I remember back in boy scouts "Leaves of 3.....let 'em be"

I still break out if I come in contact with poison ivy, but I don't itch anymore.

I've gotten it a couple of times b/c my dog runs around in the woods then jumps up on me when I get home.

You could always do human testing. Wearing gloves, rub a leaf from each plant on somebody you don't like. If they don't break out?fine if they do? even better

Either way, you'll get your answer.

None of them are poison oak or ivy, can't say for sumac since I've never seen it myself but none of them look even close to sumac.

I'm so allergic I have to be careful around mangoes and even anything a mango touches.

Re: For those that have poison ivy....

I got poison ivy about 3 or 4 times between about summer '94 and fall '95 but haven't had it since. First time I got it was in some woods behind the elementary school when me and couple friends were looking for balls that the kids may have lost. I actually scraped my leg against something (probably a large stick) and wound up with poison ivy inside the wound. What's weird is that I had surgery not long after I broke out and none of the doctors or nurses bothered to tell me I had poison ivy (I didn't know what it was yet).

Anyways, as for the pictures, like someone else said I don't think any of that is poison ivy. Looks like just different types of regular ivy.

Also, poison ivy can grow in vine form.

                        From Wikipedia.

Re: For those that have poison ivy....

I believe the culprit is Virginia creeper (picture #3 above)

While touching the surface is enough to come into contact with the irritant present in poison ivy, the potentially irritating element contained in Virginia creeper is found in the sap of the plant. Also, some literature suggests that fewer people are susceptible to the irritant contained in Virginia creeper than the irritant contained in poison ivy. However, handling Virginia creeper vines can potentially put the handler in contact with the vine's sap.The rash of those who are susceptible to the oxalate crystals contained in Virginia creeper sap usually begins with small bumps that appear to many to be similar to insect bites. It is possible for the rash to develop blister-like lesions around the point of contact.

Looking at my arms I think I had a moderately bad exposure. The description of the ill-effects are spot on.

I've never had poison ivy. I guess I'm just lucky or I don't react to it.

I used to get poison ivy, but now that I stay in my house and do nothing I don't get it. Seriously though, I get it bad, so I avoid it at all costs. Nothing worse than poison ivy on your man parts.
