    Credit Cards....

How does someone with no credit, get a credit card? I've applied, yet always get declined. I need to build credit, but I can't if I never get accepted for a card. Any tips?

Tell them that you just graduated HS. Worked for me. I get like 8 preapproved offers a day.

I apply online. Would it be smarter to apply by phone?

Yeah, I'd advise to stay away as long as possible.

            Go to a bank.

I just signed up for a student-free credit card with bank of America when I opened up my account there.

It's a fixed-amount, like 300 dollars, I believe, but I'm not planning on using it much at all.

And it can actually better to get a credit card early and build up your credit, since there are a lot of different things that do credit checks, and a lot think not having a credit rating is just as bad as a bad rating.

Try 1st Financial Bank... think they are a bank just for students. Or people with no credit.

1st Financial Bank USA is committed to providing quality community banking services, and credit card and other financial services to college students and college graduates throughout the USA.

I had a card with them 4-5 years when I was building credit.

If not you can also try for Capital One as a student.

Make sure you only apply for student cards or you will be denied everyone time.

Online or phone, doesn't matter. Online is better IMO.

You could also start with a store credit card, like Best Buy or somewhere else, and then build your credit up through that then apply. It's funny that you want one bad at first and it's harder to get, but once you finally get one offers for more NEVER stop coming even though you want them to.

You should have no trouble getting a student credit card. Try Chase and Citi.

                      Why is that?

They build up credit for those that don't have any and are a nice insurance if you get into a jam and don't have cash at that time.

Plus for my Discover Business Card I make money every month with their huge cash back programs.

CC aren't for those that have money management problems or those with I'll pay it back later thoughts.

CC's are fine if you pay them off evey month.

                          ...can be bad.

If you are smart with money and only buy what you can afford they are great. Plus good credit is a godsend. It will save you money because you can get better rates on houses, cars, etc...

Start with a small card with a small limit and make sure to pay it off every month. Then slowly build up by buying things in stores with their own credit companies. I will always buy something with a 12 month no interest over just paying cash. I figure out what I owe each month to pay it off before the time limit expires and in the process build my credit. Mine is in the mid 700's which means I can walk into almost anyplace and buy anything.

Bingo. With so many cards competing for customers its silly to have a simple credit card when you can get one with rewards (obviously this is harder for someone trying to establish their credit). We have an airline card and we pay for nearly everything with it. I'd pay my mortgage with it if I could. The key is paying them off each month. I've got more than enough miles saved up to take the family to Hawaii...I'm just waiting for the kids to get older.

As long as you're disciplined debit cards, checks, and cash are obsolete IMO.

                              Pretty much.

I avoided credit cards, too. But you need to build up a credit rating for other things in life. Heck, you can't do certain things unless it is known that you have a credit card.
