Re: The best things about where you live...

    Phoenix, Arizona or Maricopa County

    - We have all types of sports you can go to all year around, Suns, Coyotes, Cardinals, D-Backs, Rattlers, Sun Devils. And usually you have 1 or 2 teams that are doing well. All spring training baseball is great and a lot of teams come here.

    - The girls are endless, they are just every where and are gorgeous.

    - The clubs are nice and fun and you have all types also great bars.

    - A lot of job opportunities because this city/county is always growing.

    - Not bad traffic at all for a city/county with over 4 million people in it.

    - The winter is absolutley awesome.

    - Plenty of great golf courses.

    - 5 hours away from California (san diego), 4 hours away from Vegas, 4 hours away from Rocky Point, Mexico or 3 hours to Flagstaff where you can go boarding in the winter. You can just hop in your car anytime and just head over to a party town.

    - A lot of places to eat, all ethnicities are right here to Mexian, Middle Eastern, every type of asian food, Hawaiian. Also almost every franchise is here that I can think of is here.

-Pretty much every popular type of franchise can be found here. So shopping is really good.

    - Maricopa County is like a perfect grid so its hard to get lost.

-Ton of colleges you can go to.

    - A lot of great trails to hike. And also the dog parks are awesome. Parks in general are ok, and the communities are very nice.

    - Extremely clean city, even in the ghetto is not that bad.

    - I love racing and there are two different tracks you can go to plus if you are into modifying your ride a lot places you can get parts.

Wow I put a lot of stuff, I guess I really like it here. What I wish was more culture in the city, its so spread out that its tough for people to come together sometimes. Since I've only been here 6 years, i haven't really gone out and did any nature stuff so thats a big thing I'm missing out coming from Alaska.

      Raleigh, North Carolina

      1. College Sports - N.C. State, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest...alum all over the city can lead to some memorable discussions about your favorite team, no matter the sport.

      2. Diversity - Southern hospitality blended with a northern state of mind. People from all over the country are in the Raleigh/Durham area because of how easy it is to find a job. Most people in Cary (south of Raleigh) aren't even from NC....they are from NY, CA, FL and IL.

      3. Indie Music/Arts scene - the high schools in this area produce a lot of very artistic people.

4 - Population - Never too busy, but not too slow. Like I said before, its like a little-big city. During certain parts of the day, people are hustling and bustling, but once you get where it is you need to go, you can feel the southern hospitality.

5 - Jobs, jobs - You know that game Gears of War? Unreal Tournament? Both were made in the Cary area of North Carolina. The Research Triangle Park is the East Coast equivalent to Silicon Valley.

There are a few things the wife and I are really enjoying in our new home (though we REALLY miss the Denver metro area where we grew up and went to school).

-a lot of good ethnic food places are here, including several fine Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, and Middle Eastern cuisines. Very surprising!
-our neighborhood is quiet and there's some kids my son can play with that are his age
-an affordable, quality private preschool program that will further sharpen my boy's mind
-a good sports bar to watch football and drink beer on the weekend with the guys
-little over an hour to St. Louis, where we've heard a great zoo resides (going there this weekend) and where I can hopefully get baseball tickets next season that aren't standing room only

And to think, last year we were in Boise and in three more we'll in all likelihood be moving to another locale...stay tuned!
I'm pretty much in the same boat as you Johnny. I live about an hour west of St. Louis, and everything you said pretty much applies to me as well. Sometimes I hate living in the country.

Auburn, WA (25 mins South of Seattle, 15 mins North of Tacoma)

          1. Entertainment - In Auburn there is Emerald Downs, a thoroughbred racetrack. There is the White River Ampitheatre, a huge concert venue. The Muckleshoot Casino, I think the biggest in the West outside of Nevada. Plus the other numerous forms of entertainment in Seattle.

          2. Sports - Seahawks, Mariners, Sonics, all just 30 mins away. Also, only 20 mins away from the Tacoma Dome where most of the High School state championship games are played. Also rated one of the best little leagues programs. Good golfing, including Washington National, in Auburn.

          3. Music Scene - Seattle > Rest of the US

          4. Wages - Highest minimum wage

          5. Water - There are two lakes within 10 minute drives from Auburn, as well as a large river in Auburn. Plus, only 30 minutes to Puget Sound and a few hours from the coast. Plus, a huge water park 10 minute drive.

          6. Mountains - Huge mountains everywhere.

          7. Girls - Can't everyone put this down?

          8. Food - Really good eating in Seattle as well as Tacoma.

          9. Diversity - The area has a lot of diversity.

          10. Downtown - Great nightlife in the city.

No doubt southern people are more friendly on the surface, but stuff like this is real. I've got family in the south, and I gotta say I get scared when I go down there. Up north these problems still exist, but nothing like down south.

Sorry, not trying to start a fight......really. I just find these sorts of stories baffling.

                        1. 15 mins from downtown Cleveland for Indians, Browns, Cavs games
                        2. I live less than a 1/2 mile from Lake Erie, can hear it at night in the fall with the waves crashing in. Great to sleep to.
                        3. Two hour drive to watch the Buckeyes at home
                        4. Two hour drive to Pittsburgh, 3 hour drive to Niagra Falls and gambling, 3 hour drive to Detroit/Windsor for more gambling
                        5. Less than 2 hours to Cedar Point
                        6. All 4 seasons, we get 90 degree heat in the summer, we have -5 degree with 2 feet of snow in the winter. Love the seasons
                        7. Great concert scene, Rock N Roll Hall of Fame
                        8. Pro Football Hall of Fame is 90 mins away
                        9. Love my actual area where my house is, great community, great neighbors, and 5 mins down the road I have a grocery store, restaurants, Best Buy, etc.
                        10. Great seafood at a place called Pickle Bills, which is on the river, and has a floating bar. Also great food at a former train station in Willoughby Brewing Company (area still has a lot of brew pubs).
                        11. High School Football...IS HUGE HERE. Love the big matchups, big games every week, and then the great Ohio HS playoff run. Many games televised, etc, just a great area for HS Football.
I agree with all that, I was born and raised in Perry, had to move to South Georgia a couple years ago, it aint bad here but it aint home neither

Also that place where they throw a bucket of steamed seafood/corn/potatoes on your table and you just go at it and toss the crap into your own bucket.
