Re: Questions about the English language

yeah, from what I've heard friends say, english has its quirks if your not native to it. I guess it's one of those things that when we grow up with it, we accept and absorb everything and don't have another language to compare it to.

Re: Questions about the English language

Well, my native language is Hebrew (and BTW we write from right to left but I'm used to writing from left to right in English since age 10). Even in my language there are things I don't understand, every language has it. I'm just trying to understand the logic behind that, but I guess some things need to be memorized and that's all.
      My Specs:

      ZX Spectrum
      CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
      GPU: Monochrome display
      RAM: 48 KB
      OS: Sinclair BASIC

It's not worth trying to learn the logic behind many things in the English language. If you ask professors here, some will try and explain it to you, while others will just laugh and tell you that it is something people will never be able to understand.

This would be a clear example of why people consider English one of the, if not the, hardest languages to learn as a second or third language.

OK guys, thanks for taking the time and writing comments. Anyway, it's our new year's eve here in Israel (yes it's always sometime on September - weird to me too, there's a different calendar - though no1 really lives by it except for holidays), so happy new year guys, or as we say in hebrew: Shana tova

Hell, I don't even know if I spelled Shabat right. Shabbot? Shabbat? Who knows.

Happy new year to you too, man.

No 1 knows It doesn't really matter because it's not an english word. It means like saying have a nice weekend or something, hard to explain. Shabat (or whatever u write it) is our Sunday - no1 works in shabat and it's on Saturday.
And BTW Shalom has a double meaning in hebrew: hello and peace. So basically it's all u need

English is a pretty screwed up language. I'm in my second year of Spanish, and they at least have everything organized, and for the most part, letters sound the same in every word. The only problem is that you have to change everything depending on who you're talking to.
