Writing Professional Resignation Letters

Any good tips on writing a resignation letter? I have put one together and have kept it positive so I don't burn any bridges.

Is it ok if I keep the company and new position title off of it? I have seen some samples that have it in it.

I've never put the new company/position on a resignation letters. I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. Here's what I've used in the past (short and sweet):

Current Employer Name
Current Employer Address
Current Employer Address

Date

Dear Employer Name:

As required by my contract of employment, I hereby give you two weeks' notice of my intention to leave Company Name on Last Date of Work.

I have decided that it is time to move on and I have accepted a position elsewhere. It was a difficult decision, but I'm confident that my new role will help me to move towards some of the goals I have for my career.

I wish both you and Company Name every good fortune and I would like to thank you for having me as part of your team.

Sincerely,

Your Name<o>

Like Altimus said, you never know. That's why I never put the new company or position on a resignation letter. Even if you leave on good terms, you just never know what the old company is capable of doing. Maybe I'm paranoid in that sense, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

No question. I left my current job 6 years ago, came back 10 months later. Because I left on good terms, I was hired back right away.

The goal is to never burn a bridge.
