    Doing stuff around the house

Just wondering if there is anyone that is more worthless then me when it comes to doing stuff around the house? This happens to me all the time, I see something I would like to do and get a general idea of what the process is. I also ask around and see what people have to say that have done it. I will also do any prep work like measuring, buying materials, etc; When it comes down to getting the work done - the measurements are wrong or some other freakin' disaster - I have put my hand through countless spots in the drywall or door because I just cant handle the failure anymore.

Today - I went to hang some shelves in a closet. I measured with a tape measure 36" so I got shelves that measured 35.8" - shelves dont fit (I measure again with a level and its 35.5") so I figure I can hang the tracks. NOPE! stud finder finds a stud every 4 inches and only on 1/2 of the wall - so apparantely the other side of the wall has no studs (which I doubt) or the stud finder is a piece of sh*t!

Thanks for the rant - I felt this would be better then putting my hand through the wall again!

That's pretty funny. Just laugh at it. Life's too short to be serious about these things.

I hate hanging anything with a passion. I try to avoid it as long as possible.

my step dad was like that. He'd measure 18 times and get a different number each time. It was hilarious trying to see him square up where he'd put an outdoor shed together.

I'll help lift stuff and move them around but I can't put things together. I never got how people look forward and love doing that stuff.

Wow a bunch of nerdy gamers who can't do any handy work? Suprised?

                  Just kidding.

Depending on your age you learn how to do stuff. When I was young I used to mess up all kinds of simple stuff around the house. But now for most things I have been there down that which makes it a lot easier.

I could fix almost anything in the house. Hanging stuff up, that's easy. That kind of stuff doesn't bother, it makes me feel useful.

                      I suck at building/hanging/fixing anything.

I have a feeling I will be hiring people for any home project I have when I get married and have my own house.

I suck at anything that is a tool type of job. Which is funny, because I come from a family of Carpenters. lol It is some where in my genes. lol

It doesn't help that I hate working with saws or anything else that can cut off a body part.

In 9th Grade I was in Wood Working class, and I was standing next to my friend when he cut his pinky off with some kind of saw thing. I haven't touched anything that can cut my fingers off, since then.

I prefer to have all my body parts.

I usually need help, but I've done a bunch of home projects, and enjoy doing them. From remodeling our bathroom, to remodeling our kitchen, laying tile, running electrical, etc.

Now that I say that, I'll have some major project that I'll mess up.

Test the stud finder on another wall, preferably one where you know the studs are spaced correctly. They are usually fairly accurate but get confused easily if there's something they don't expect. My current apartment is an older house and my stud finder thinks the entire wall behind my stove, wear I hung my pots and pans rack, is a stud. I'm curious to see what's behind it but haven't taken the sawzall to it yet.

As far as being handy, my family built our house when I was younger. We also put a couple additions on other family members houses so I'm pretty handy when it comes to building.
