    Sleepiness

OK, so within the last month or so, Ive found myself to be very sleepy almost all day. I go to bed between 11-2, depending on if I have anything to do, but I'll get 8 hours of sleep--although I do dream alot.

I have just found myself wanting to sleep at weird times (ie: I wake up at 9 and then want to sleep at 2 or something). And then at night Im always super tired--although that doesnt mean I'll be able to fall asleep right away.

This really sucks though because I have sooo much reading to do for class and stuff, so i cant be tired like this all the time.

Anyone experience this? If so, how have you solved it?

    Re: Sleepiness

Get on a normal schedule. I go to bed between 10-11 every night but weekends, where I go to bed between 11:30-1. I get up at 5:30 every morning other than weekends.

If you get a good schedule, you're sleepiness will go away.

Are you weak or sleepy? Do you exercise?
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Nah, Im not depressed, although I'm leaving for Australia in January for my Masters/experience and that maaay be in the back of my mind, but I doubt it.

As for excercise, I have a bum knee right now and I cant even run without it feeling like its coming out of place--so no, no sports or running, BUT I do walk alot and with weights (ie: school books and laptop lol)

Maybe Im stressed? I should take up smoke, eh? haha

If it keeps up for a long period of time, maybe see the doctor...I doubt it's your cause, but fatigue is a symptom of a lot of various problems....just another route you can take

Ive seen a doctor and he said he doesnt really see what the problem could be

This is killing me though cause I have soooo much work to do and all I want to do is fall asleep.

And Im of the type that thinks sleeping is for night--that is, I dont sleep in past 10, I dont take naps, etc--and never in my life has this previously beemn a problem

I found that if I get 8 hours of sleep Im tired. If I get 7 or 6 hours Im fine. I also found that the more water I drink the more sluggish I get if I havent worked out in the morning.

Holy eh, your different than most people.

I see where your going though. I get better rest if I sleep 8 hours but go to bed early (ie: 10) than if I sleep 9-10 hours and go to bed at 2.

Also, I worked construction last summer and would start at 5am, not get home til AT LEAST 930pm, and then eat, shower and go to bed. Every single day except Sunday.

Anyways, i'd get like 5-6 hrs of sleep but be fine. I dono.

Yeah he is right about the sleep thing. It is funny, but the more hours I get the tired I am. I think it has to do with the fact you are sleeping longer and your body gets lazy. Or something like that.

I am always tired in the middle of the day around 1 or 2. If i stay awake and fight through it I get a second wind so to speak. I also love to sleep in if I can, but usually when I do I am tired within the next couple of hours, but if I get out of bed and get going on less sleep I am not as tired throughout the day.

Do you take a productive mid-day nap?

If not, you should. 20-40 minutes a day. Don't do it for any longer or you'll risk hitting REM sleep and then you'll be groggy the whole day unless you get your full 8 hours.

So, I would say take a 30 minute nap after class or between classes and it'll be extremely helpful.

YankeePride_YP is correct. There are a ton of studies coming out that say 30-60min naps each day help out, granted it's not always possible.

Give it a try and see how it goes.

I suffered from insomnia last year for 13 months... so... yeah... I know what it's like having some kind of sleeping and fatigue problem.

I used to take naps at lunch break when I worked.

Really, lunch takes about 15 minutes to eat. That left me about 30 minutes give or take because I'd set aside another 15 minutes to buy/prepare the food and take a quick piss before heading back to work.

Those 30 minutes were wonderful. I don't know how I handled being at work for 12 hours before I tried taking naps. It really made the end of the day smoother and I felt more energetic when I got home from work.

Hmm I don't keep a regular schedule so I get some really wild swings. Right now i'm on a "fall asleep at 8 PM and wake up at 5:30" body clock right now. That should change tonight tho.

Needless to say I also suggest a nap. When I was in high school I always came home and slept for an hour or so and that'd help me out.

Also in regards to health did your doctor look at your thyroid (sp?) as that can lead to general fatigue.
