Having all this free time does make me realize just how much I could get done if I had to do stuff for 8 hours straight a day. I'm stretching stuff that should take an hour or two instead to last all day because it's so boring. I literally handed in what my supervisor wanted me to get done in the morning, and they never assigned anything else all day. So boring not knowing what to do.

I don't wanna keep asking "what else do you need?" all day after each thing I finish. Would be nice if they just gave me everything at once, was like "finish all this by end of week" and let me be on my way after. Getting tasks to do every now and then, not knowing if this stuff should take 1 hour or 1 day, it gets exhausting. There's no real direction at all in this job, no supervision, nothing. Especially a new job, would think they'd guide me at first, but instead I basically just show up and do nothing and nobody bothers checking up on me or help me get acquainted.

when Han Solo, in reference to kanjiklub, says "you know you cant trust those little freaks".
ah well, at least he never referred to Luke and Chewie as his homies.

Regardless how old I get, I'll forever hate back to school commercials. August about to begin, kids enjoying their vacation, then forced to see all these back to school commercials on tv for the next month. It's like Christmas countdown except the opposite.
I remember just how much I hated seeing those commercials on TV. Last thing on your mind in middle of summer is school. I always tried my best to not think about school until the week before to do shopping and then just sort out all other stuff on labour day weekend.

among many others, this is an excellent reason to not watch tv during the summer.

I couldn't possibly agree more with this. It's like trying to enjoy your last meal before an execution, and the entire time you're trying to eat, they're fitting the straps to your wrists and forehead...

Exactly, except in this case, they do it for so much longer. Obviously they have to do it so they can sell stuff for longer periods of time/get more people aware, but the second August begins they're all over it. Didn't mind it as much hearing about going back to school near final week or so of August, but when the first day of August hits and it's already like "1 month until school! Start thinking about it now!" it sucked.

Lots of schools are starting earlier anyway, as dumb as it may be. Atlanta school district has AUGUST FIRST as their first day of school.

                Like what the ****.

We started on August 5th last year.. it was horrible. Starting on the 18th this year, which is better, but still too early. Every school before the university level should start after Labor Day.

August start dates for schools are even worse. Would hate to be one without AC.

For me, it was always Tuesday after labour day start. Usually ended last week of June.

HS started like the day after Labor Day or something but it was a private school.

UCLA started like September 25th or something every year. That was the best. 10 week quarter system. Ended around June 10.

We always started the last week of August throughout grade school. Undergrad was usually around that time, too.

As a teacher, I would much rather have school start later in September and go further into June if I had the choice.

I was always the random kid that didn't mind the idea of year round school, with more days off during the full slate.

What was the reason school systems chose a summer break in the first place?

                          Burgh?

I like the idea in theory with way more days/weeks off but I figure the break was created because summer is hot, insufferable bull****.

This is just a guess, but I think people had an idea that kids needed time away from school, so to give them the summer off where they can be outside more and there's more daylight.

I know France was the first country to implement free public education, but I don't know what their schedule is like. So I'm not sure if Summer break is an American thing, or a standard of education in general.

short version of why children are out of school during the summer has to do with back in the ''old'' days there was no air conditioning.
