When students say "There's only [insert number] minutes left," indicating they think it's a good time to stop working before the bell rings.
My inner response: "Hey, that's great. I'll make sure to remember that when I detain you after class for exactly that amount of time while you continue working after everyone else finishes and leaves... asshat."
Seriously, the work ethic of some individuals... class is for a set time for a reason. If they wanted you to stop early, they would make class that many minutes shorter.
It's one thing to say there are twenty seconds left of class, but today a student who is in a credit recovery course said there were "only ten minutes left" (when there were really thirteen minutes left) and it was too late for him to start an online quiz that they can save at any problem and proceed with the next day. Needless to say, that kept him in there until he finished... which was only two minutes after the bell.
