Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
This one's teacher-centric, and it's not that I have something against having fun but, as a teacher, I despise any kind of viral video attempt made by fellow teachers where they pop their polo shirt collars, put on a pair of Matrix sunglasses, then very poorly imitate an out-of-style dance craze while lip-synching something awful and ridiculous.
I've seen them pop up all over the place in the midwest this week on account of all the snow days. Administrators are using this event as an excuse to carry on with more of this awfulness. Then the local news picks one up, other teachers see that, and then they make their own awful videos and the cycle perpetuates until it reaches its logical extreme.

Here's an example in standard form:

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
It looks like it's all in good fun. In my experience some of my best learning experiences have come from teachers that think outside the box and stray from the norm. My best grade in college so far has been a 96 and it's in a subject I traditionally suck at (English). I had a teacher that was unlike any college teacher or professor I've had yet and he somehow made me care about writing and find it interesting.Last edited by AUChase; 01-29-2019, 04:08 PM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Those videos are like the equivalent of those scenes in movies where a group of nerdy looking people are walking in slow motion while some hardcore rap song plays. After the 1,000th one the humor/irony has been completely killed off.Comment

Good to see teachers are just as attention-starved as the kids they teach...

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Not planning on stopping anyone from dancing, nor do I object to thinking outside the box as a teacher. Cringey dance numbers just happen to grind my gears and I empathize with the students when they wish to climb into a hole until it's over. Only a few steps away from:It looks like it's all in good fun. In my experience some of my best learning experiences have come from teachers that think outside the box and stray from the norm. Which again, do you thing, I guess. But my gears are going to keep grinding. It's like watching a bunch of real life Michael Scotts out there.Comment

This is what happens when they make us entertain the students while teaching. Some people take it too far.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Well the truth is most aren't too far removed from being kids anymore and are more connected with the world because they understand social media.. so it's only natural.
When I was in grade school most of my teachers were my parents age or older. Now a lot of the teachers are in their mid 20's. I know I'm 29 now and several people I graduated HS with have been teachers for a while and a few are even teaching at places like Iowa State.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Mug of coffee in hand. Cold, so I’m wearing a hoodie. Lean over, hoodie strings in to the coffee.
I’ve probably only ever drawn my hood tight once or twice. Why do so many hoodies come with strings?! HahaNHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
When you place your order of appetizer and dinner. Then dinner comes out 2 minutes after you got the appetizer.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
In defense of food servers, having been one in the past, there's a lot of chaos and variables going on in a kitchen. So, you might have the option of the dinner either coming out 5 minutes after the appetizer, or 50+ minutes after. With no in between.Comment
