Really? Because the barking, and lunging towards people doesn't seem like a dog that's the friendliest dog in the world.

I used to have a docile dog who would never bite, but if anyone asked to pet him I acted like he was the most vicious monster of all time and they needed to step off* or he might rip their face off.

edit: there would be times I would wish my polite little buddy would actually act aggressive to validate my claim that he was vicious, but he was so nice

Yes, but some are - and unless you know which ones are and are not dangerous beforehand, it doesn't hurt to be cautious. I've been bitten by someone's dog before (miraculously, this dog "never bites" according to the owner....) and I'm in no rush to take any chances.

Everyone thinks everyone loves their dog as much as they do. In general, I find dog owners to be pretty oblivious with respect to their animals, and not because they are bad people, but because they genuinely think everyone else in the world loves their animal as much as they do.

It always annoys us how many people will come up to our dog and start petting her without asking.

          Changing gears here (pun intended)

I hate how whenever something happens, the solution is directed towards the average person, not corporations.

For example, mentioning how people should reduce the amount of food they waste. Yes, the average household does waste more food than they should, but let's not act as if companies aren't worse at this. Grocery stores definitely throw out LOTS of food that people don't buy, restaurants do it too, and businesses do it too (I know its not uncommon for a company to order lots of food for a meeting or event, people just eat whatever, and then all the leftovers just get thrown out. Full on meals that could feed multiple families just get thrown out because the office lunch meeting had too many things to eat)

Same with something like conserving water. Making people feel guilty during a drought about using up too much water showering. Meanwhile, there's no doubt many rich houses, country clubs and other places where they're still constantly watering their lawns or golf courses daily and washing their cars.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I look at that similarly, though at a nation-to-nation level rather than just individuals vs. companies. In the U.S., we act like we're the worst country on Earth for the planet, people are ashamed about us temporarily leaving the Paris Climate Accords, but meanwhile China emits more than double what we do. This goes for the whole West, really.

              • China’s greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 exceeded those of the U.S. and other developed nations combined, according to research published Thursday by Rhodium Group.
              • China is now responsible for more than 27% of total global emissions. The U.S., the world’s second-highest emitter, accounts for 11% of the global total.
              • The findings come after a climate summit President Joe Biden hosted last month, during which Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated a pledge to make sure the nation’s emissions peak by 2030.
              https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/06/chin...ld-report.html

So for me, let China take care of their pollution, then maybe we can get back to the eco self-flagellating in the West.

Gosh, China (the government, anyway) has a lot to answer for these days, come to think of it.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

With regard to food waste, one of the companies I used to work at would sometimes provide food/lunch for people, and at the end of the lunch hour, there would be tons of food left over which was still perfectly good. We tried to take it over to the local food bank one day, and were told that they can't accept outside food that was >1 hr old (or something like that; I may not remember the specifics but that's the gist of it).

It was crazy because I would (and did) eat the food, and while I understand liability, if you're really feeding a truly needy population, it's hard for me to imagine they would turn down a literal banquet free of charge. But that may be one of the contributing reasons why a lot of food gets wasted.

There are a lot of comments I could make here but out of respect for OS's terms of service, I'll just leave it at that.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

There definitely could be better uses of things like that. If there were food banks that accepted non stale food from restaurants and would serve all of them that same day for free to those in need, I'm sure it would be well worth it.

Part of me feels like work culture also plays a small role in it too. If your boss or company is just like "yeah, we got lots of food leftover. Feel free to take whatever you want home with you", then that sounds like a good one.

But if its one where they're basically just throwing it away, hoarding it for the higher ups to take home, and/or would make people feel awkward or guilty asking to take some home, then that's probably a bad environment.

That actually happened to me on my last day of work before everything shut down. We knew things were closing, so that last day we were basically just wrapping everything up, doing whatever absolutely needed to be done before things shut down. By the end, they just bought everyone lunch, then with the leftovers were just like "take whatever you want home". I didnt wanna take a whole box of pizza with me on my commute, so I just took "one slice for the road" and some drinks in my bag and that was it.

Articles that don't make it easier on the reader, for example by including basic stuff like a table. Like Jokic wins MVP and they do the vote breakdown in a paragraph and don't include a separate table for the votes. Go **** yourself ESPN, CBS Sports and The Athletic.

For me it's articles that would best be presented in bullet point form, but of course the writer has to act like they're Charles Dickens and have a whole paragraph or two like "When it comes to blah blah, a lot of people think that blah blah blah..."

                              I mean, China's per-capita CO₂ emissions in tonnes for 2017 was 6.86

                              For comparison:
                              • Australia - 16.88
                              • United States - 16.16
                              • Canada - 15.59
                              • South Korea - 12.15
                              • Germany - 9.52

Aside from that, the Industrial Revolution didn't start in China or with the Opening of China so there is plenty of blame to go around.

Not a surprise, but yet another reason I hate Apple products.

I had someone ask me about setting up their iPhone to their car. The cable they had works fine for regular charging uses and all that.

But apparently the cable isn't compatible with the phone/car connection, and it will either not connect or will connect but could give issues.

I'm an Android user, and I can use any micro USB cable and it works fine. But like always, Apple does stuff which makes you forced to use the official iPhone cables rather than using a different cable you might have purchased on Amazon or elsewhere.
