Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I've noticed this phenomenon on Instagram, and it's probably on other social media as well. But, what is with this proliferation of all these vaguely new-agey, yoga, reiki, tantra practitioners, with healing gems, and energy flows, and horoscope referencing? It's mostly millennials and Gen Y-ers. It's like we've taken our parents' and grandparents' 60s New Age period and morphed it into this little half-spiritual, half-business thing.
I consider myself an independently spiritual person, but the ultimate uncertainty of it all is a central tenet for me. These people seem downright convinced of all their dubious practices and quasi-beliefs. It's at least partly a product of the decline of more traditional religious observance. People need something. But there's an interesting level of uniformity to this movement that seems to have developed on its own. It's sociologically interesting.
Anyway, weird, wild schtuff.Comment

So I’m a pastor and those of us in the religious field will be trying to figure out for years how to minister to and with people for a long time as we hopefully move into a post-pandemic world. What I’m talking about it the idea of “going to church” and what does living in community mean to a person. Because we quickly found that a large portion of people embraced “digital worship” once the pandemic made it more commonplace and they aren’t stepping their feet back into a physical building to worship. But they want community. It’s, as you said, very interesting.

I always joke with my brother that a way I screen against people on Twitter (or whatever other social media platform you care for) is if they have their horoscope sign in their bioOSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Nintendo Switch's online capabilities.
I'm downloading the MLB The Show Tech Test on both the Switch and PS5 simultaneously, on the same connection. Switch size is 10.8 GB, PS5 is almost 25 - and it looks like both downloads are going to finish around the same time (around a total of 6 hours).
Both are wired, btw - I'm not using Switch's Wi-Fi which is typically even worse.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Smart TVs that's start glitching out - apps stop responding, remote starts acting weird - because turning the TV off doesn't actually turn it off, it turns the screen off and puts it in a hybrid sleep mode, and the only way to actually do a full restart is through a settings menu. Computers do the same thing, but at least you restart them fairly regularly for updates/installations, and in theory you won't have an uptime of 60+ days.
Also, the fact that every button on my remote acts as on "ON" button. So if I move the remote and accidently press any button it turns it on.Comment

Was gifted a Vizio Smart TV two Christmas ago, the amount of times I've had to randomly restart it in the past two years...Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Why doesn't stuff just "work", anymore? I mean, why is there always some glitch where whatever HDMI port isn't being recognized so I have to turn off/reset everything? I mean, it's a plug. A plug should just work.Comment

You might be running into handshaking. Have you looked that up? That happens a lot with HDMI ports, and can be remedied.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
