On my way into town this evening, I almost ran into two dogs because of this. One of which had a leash hanging off of it's collar. The other got lucky I didn't splatter it after I drove over it. I missed it completely with my tires. It was a smaller dog though.

    Stupid people.

People who chain their dogs up.

I wouldn't have a dog if It had to be on a chain.

Wireless dog fencing, building a fence, putting it in a house, or just not owning a dog are all possible substitutes, but no dog should constantly be chained up.

I'm with you. I wouldn't own a dog that doesn't live in the house, nor would I treat a dog like that. Only time my dogs go on a chain is if I'm in the middle of something when they gotta go outside. Even then, its not so much a chain as it is a long rope so they can still run around the yard.

Depends what kind of dog. We have a couple Walker hounds we keep on chains. They are coon hunting dogs, really not something you keep inside lol.

And our beagle is a house dog but when we take her outside we have to tie her up because for whatever reason when we let her run she always makes her way to the road and it worries me so we tie her up. But its a big lead cable that runs across our whole yard, so she still has a lot of space when she is on it.

Yeah chaining a dog 24/7 is ****ed up

How is he/she supposed to even get adequate exercise if a chain is holding them back all the time?

Leaving your dog out in your yard and paying no attention to him/her all day is still better than chaining them up

Conversely, it's equally as dumb to just let a dog off leash in a public place

No matter how well behaved the dog is, it's still a dog and will recklessly chase after another animal or bug or something and could wander in to the street and get killed

My grandpa still has a few hounds he uses for hunting, but they are in a big fenced in area. I just don't believe in chaining animals up for any lengthy period of time. We have one of those lines across our back yard for our inside dog, but she can run almost anywhere in the backyard on it...

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Well we take our coon hounds hunting at least 3 times a week during winter when season is in, and usually about 3 or 4 times a month out of season just to keep them in rhythm. So I mean they get a good amount of running and exercise and are in great shape. I see where your coming from though, I know people who have hunting dogs chained up but aren't serious about hunting, so the dogs only get to go out once or twice a year. I agree that is wrong to do to a dog.

Yeah, that's definitely good, nothing worse than a dog that doesn't know a world outside of the chain

I work with dogs daily, so I might seem a little too OCD about their treatment

Same situation here.. or soon to be manager anyway. It also grinds my gears when people show up 1 minute before close and pump about $100 in gas. I think I just don't like people sometimes.

I have seen something similar at wal mart. Buy groceries with food stamps, then pull out a one hundred dollar bill to buy a case of beer. I'm not saying people shouldn't enjoy themselves sometimes, but that's a bit much.

It's not when they pull out 'A' one hundred dollar bill. It is when they pull out like $500 to pay for the stuff the government won't. But I suppose they probably just cashed their pay check.. everytime they do it.. right?

                              ::sigh::

Going back to the dog discussion for a moment, I live out in the country, and what I should have said (and probably meant originally) was people who don't at least keep their dogs within their fences. Living out in the country, I constantly see stray and loose animals running all over the road here by my house.

So whenever I drive the road nearby, I always have to watch for animals. Every so often I'll see one or two that got ran over by someone else.
