I went to a Pirates game the other night, and there was a girl that couldn't have been more than 10 having an energy drink. Was hyper the entire game, wouldn't shut up. Jumping around in front of me. Ended up missing the Pirates make a valiant effort to make a comeback.

Why do you say that? Isn't possible that someone actually does like all kinds of music? They may like some more than others.

I have yet to find someone who actually does. I may just be biased by thinking, "metal is music too!" when people say that and clearly exhibit no knowledge of the genre - or even a couple steps down from that, like classic hard rock (Led Zeppelin, Rush, or AC/DC).

Music is obviously a subject that everyone has very different opinions on, and I am almost certainly blowing this pet peeve way out of proportion, but when someone says that they like all kinds of music, I expect them to mean it. Even if you like the most autotuned, mainstream top 40 hits, you better have the opposite side of the spectrum.

Plus, it just feels like a bit of a cop-out. Why not just say what kinds of music you like when I ask you? I have friends who like death metal, friends who like rap, friends who like country, pop, or even nothing at all. I'm not going to hate your guts for saying you like something I don't. But when you say you like everything, and I ask you what you think of Guns N' Roses, it's pretty annoying to hear the word "who?" come out of your mouth. (It's even worse when you name off "Sweet Child of Mine" as the one song you know that they wrote, but that's not the point.)

I think this is a reflection on how some people are afraid to find themselves and create their own identity. Instead they just end up following the popular opinion. They aren't an individual, they're just one of the masses.

I won't say I like all kinds of music, but I'm definitely one of the "can get into most music" types.

I can range from slamcore to classical pops.

I actually find myself turning into sirius pops channel 75 while reading sports sites to keep mellow.

I disagree. If you talk to a musician, you'll see that they usually like a large variety of music. Rarely, have I met one who sticks to only a few genres. Personally, the only types of music that I don't listen to are Latin, polka, and Calypso. Outside of that, I really do like all kinds of music. That's not to say that there isn't a lot of songs and artists that I don't like, but I can't think of many genres that I really don't listen to.

Yeah, for me I can get into most genres, but there isn't a single genre out there where I like all the artists.

I hate this too. One day I went crazy and said f it to all my socks and donated them and bought a bunch of the same socks.

Musicians are a different breed of people, most of them like many types of music and many of them don't like how society tries to pigeon hole what they create. This is also why in my previous statement I said "some people". Any respectable musician isn't going to tell you they like all types of music and then say "Who is Guns N' Roses"?
