Having to sell things to customers when I know there are far better, fairer options out there. I work for a large cellphone company and I hate pushing our insurance onto people. If I don't sell it, I get in trouble, so I try to ignore it. But damn it if it makes zero sense to get any insurance through any carrier. Companies like Squaretrade are so much better because of deductible rates, and while they don't cover lost or stolen phones, most people aren't worried about that. And if they do ever need to make a claim, most people don't because the cost is so high. So they pay money for it monthly for no reason. It's sales, and I've been in sales for nearly 6 years so I'm used to it, but most things I felt off-put by I can at least see some value in. When I sell insurance, I always feel like I'm ripping the customer off.

That's why I hated working at Best Buy.

They'd always tell us to push the PRPs and stuff, because it's 100% pure profit for the store/company. I got lucky, because I rarely worked a register (I'd float back and help install stuff when they were understaffed in the install department) and we didn't have a register in car audio, so I'd just get to say what it does and doesn't cover then the cashier would be the one who had to try to push it on them.

I worked there for nearly four years and I actually saw some value in most of those plans. I still buy them for myself. But, the deductible is what's bull****. If it was just $10 for insurance, that would be reasonable. Or even if the deductible was only on lost or stolen phones. Otherwise it's highway robbery because few people end up making the claims.

Not that this is either here or there, but Best Buy's aren't terrible... it's just that there's so much better available.

On some stuff (smaller items) it isn't bad, but on larger items things like SquareTrade blow them out of the water. I agree, though. You guys gotta make a killing off phone insurance.

Isn't there a difference between hating the person and hating the act the person is doing?

I wouldn't be if it were younger guys (17-21), but if you're knocking on 30 (like me) and still talking/bragging/arguing about **** like that with the fellas then you got issues. Lol.

I remember this one time when I was buying a TV and the person at the store was constantly pushing me to buy a $100 HDMI cable from the store. I kept on saying I don't want it, but they kept on pushing it on me. If it wasn't for the fact that I was getting a good deal on the TV, I prob would've just left the store and gotten it elsewhere.

Eventually the guy there started indirectly insulting me and being like "what kind of quality do you even get at home then if you don't have a HDMI cable like this....." and "If you don't have this cable, you're wasting your money on this tv and your cable" lol.

That person is the single biggest reason why I HATE people working on commission. Worst part of this whole thing is that it took me like 30 mins to even buy the TV cause I took advantage of the stores(match and beat by 10%) deal so I was saving over $100 and the guy kept on acting like he didn't know how to do the price match(but inbetween trying to match the price,he kept on trying to sell me on the cable) and the second after I acted like I was just gonna give up and leave, he suddenly was able to do the price match...

Next time I get someone annoying like this, I'm just gonna mislead them or something lol. Tell them to go find out if they have a certain item in stock, and when they're gone to look, I'll just quickly go to the cashier and pay for my stuff then leave.

Nothing stops you from lying and saying you already own that cable, or the more expensive one next to it. They won't know.

Stupid moral dilemma lol. I honestly didn't even think about lying until like 10-15 minutes in(cause I didn't see any point of lying if telling the truth would just make this thing take like 1-2 mins longer)

One of the first mistakes was that I almost immediately said "Those expensive cables are a waste of money, I'm never paying that much for one." so I couldn't backtrack and be like "I own one". I did say I owned another cable though but the guy insisted that their $100 one was so special.

Either way, lesson learned and I'll probably not make a mistake like that again.

Which would lead the salesperson to believe you're a sucker & encourage him/her to offer an array of unnecessary crap.

I usually just waive the helpers off immediately, even if I need help

I'd rather scour the building for 20 minutes than spend 1 minute talking to the "helpers".

Only so much extra you can offer with a TV these days. I also just tell people I'm browsing or I know what I'm looking for. They usually leave me alone.
