Is it really that big a deal that somebody got ahead of you in traffic? Oh no, I'll get to my destination 1.2 seconds later now.
Eh, I figure I'll weigh in on this one. While I may not know what is going on in another drivers life, I know what impact their decision making is having on my life and the life of everyone else on the road. There is rushing to a destination and then there is reckless driving. While I would most certainly understand the need for a driver to speed and occasionally cut from lane to lane if there is a loved one in danger or hospitalized. I could never understand how someone could let that situation lead them to put others lives in danger.

If I see someone driving in a manner that I think could lead to death or injury, I'm going to do my best to make sure that driver is brought back down to a sensible level. Whether that means I'm calling the cops or driving a mile or two under the speed limit, I'm not going to advocate or enable one to drive recklessly at the expense of my life or the life of anyone else. With that said, there are situations in which I think it's much more simple to just move over and let someone pass if it appears their intentions aren't all too concerning.

Driving slowly isn't really the same as speeding up so you're not letting someone in. Reckless driving versus reckless driving doesn't seem like a fun game to me.

I was going to say, combatting offensive driving with more offensive driving usually doesn't end well.

The problem is, 2 reckless drivers makes it a lot worse. There are people who speed but drive well.

The bigger issue is the people who take offense to someone passing them...which happens too often.

Keep right, pass left....something many don't obey.

Can't tell if the 2nd part is hinting at my driving more slowly as reckless. If so, I'd have to contest that by saying I'm driving perfectly normal within the traffic lanes and I always use my signals. I'm just not going to speed up or slow down so the driver can go around. He can either drive my speed, aka the speed limit, or he can wait until he has an opportunity to go around. But all of the engine revving, swaying from side to side and bumper riding isn't going to get me to give in to your reckless tendencies (not you, in general).

If you're simply referring to someone speeding up and not letting someone in as reckless, then:

A.) I wasted about 45 seconds of everyone's time above.
            and
B.) I agree. It's a dangerous game and not one really worth playing at the end of the day.

I have a theory that the percentage of people who drives trucks and get offended by being passed is higher than the percentage of people driving cars. Anybody think I'm off base on that?

The car in front of you that leaves their turn signal on for miles.

I was behind one of those Smart cars this morning on a one lane road. The woman had her left turn indicator on for about 5 miles. She finally turns it off and then a little while later turns her right signal and turns LEFT!!!!

I actually just experienced that today. Driving home on my lunch break to take my dog out, I got stuck behind an old Lincoln Town Car that had it's left turn signal on. After enough cars in the left lane pass, I'm expecting the car to move over into the left lane and pass the car in front of them. I'm exiting so it really doesn't effect me at all...except when I'm pulling over into the exit and speeding up a tad bit (not much, just a tad) they swerve over into the exit lane with their left turn signal still blinking. Like....wtf?

                  Definitely.

I've had many more issues with people driving too slow or not using their signals then with someone going too fast. At least they get by you and are gone. Slow or unaware drivers can clog everything up, then people behind them make quick decisions to not get stuck behind them. It's a trickle down effect.

If I see someone flying and typically weaving in between lanes, I'll make sure they have plenty of room to make a lane change to get by me and hopefully get pulled over down the road.

I drive fast (not really, like 10-15 MPH max over the limit... Minus the roads where it's 25 MPH when it clearly should be 10-15 higher), but I drive smart. That's the combination you want. You can be just as dangerous by driving slow as you can be by driving fast.

People get way too offended by people on the road too. My girl swears everyone tailgates her. She doesn't drive slow, she just thinks everyone is on her *** when they're not. I don't tailgate even if you're going super slow... No purpose, and it only makes it worse.

Drives me crazy when she puts on her signal but doesn't make the lane change promptly. It's one thing to cut someone off, but you have to be a good judge of speed too. If you continue to wait, that opening won't be there much longer.

I always forget to ask... Do you guys use Pierce up there? I seem to remember them not being in play for FDNY too much (or at least remember hearing about them.) Every once in a while I still get updates about some cool engines/other stuff they'll have building.

My Pops has worked at Pierce Mfg. forever and I know they send their trucks all over the world. Kid me was always fascinated by all the different engines and he'd bring home some sweet calendars from the company and he'd always take me on the tours seeing them put together and such. Got to ride in the engines a few times for the Christmas parades back home as well.

For the ladies(Engine Companies...) they still use Seagraves(and if you really go old school....Mack)
