Munich (not the movie)
I'm going on a business trip to Munich, Germany for about a month and a half. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get around, either by U/S-Bahn or just renting a car. I also need a way to get to my hotel which is kind of far away. Are cabs just absolutely rediculous there in terms of price? Also if you have any sight-seeing suggestions let me know!Tags: None -

there were some old churches too you could climb up in.. We also took a trip to the Dachu concentration camp-just outside Munich.. that really was an eye opener... -
Re: Munich (not the movie)
i went to Bavaria a few years ago and my biggest advice is stay off the autobahn. it's congested, full of road construction, and accidents. plus the "side roads" are much more enjoyable.
if you're just staying in town though, use the local tram. it's cheep, fast, and will get you where you need to go. and if you leave town, then get a rental car.
have fun. if you're like me, you won't want to come back home.Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Just like everybody else.

Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah I've heard Germany is awesome, I'm pretty excited but my schedule keeps changing unfortunately. I will be working at BMW Headquarters so I will check out the museum for sure. I'm also planning to goto France and London as well.Comment

Re: Munich (not the movie)
I was in Munich in early October of 2001. It was my favorite out of the three I've been to over in Europe (Munich, Madrid, Paris). We stayed in a hostel of sorts that was in walking distance of the Hofbrauhaus and Marienplatz, where the Glockenspiel is located. We mainly got around just by walking or using the subway, which is nice. We also took a train and checked out some castles south of Munich near Austria. Those were cool. I loved Bavaria.
If you go to Paris, the tourist stuff is pretty cool to see (The Louvre, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, Eiffel Tower) but I didn't care much for the folks there and thought it was dirty. The subway was easy to use but it was hard for me when I traveled from Munich to Paris alone because I don't speak a lick of French. Germany was much easier since I took 4 years of German in high school.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: Munich (not the movie)
I'm here finally! Its a beautiful city and the people are friendly and helpful. I went downtown today for the first time and it seems pretty easy to get around. I'm getting a monthly pass for the transit system since I will be here for so long. Planning on going to London sometime in November, and to visit a few castles as well as Dachau. Hopefully I will continue to enjoy it after a few weeks, I'm pretty sure I'll get bored if I'm in the hotel all of the time!Comment
