Transfering Files from a PC to PC

Not sure if this is the right forum...if not I apologize.

I am getting a new computer in a month or so...Merry Christmas/Happy Birthday to me...from me. Anyways is there a good way/program to transfer files via a USB or some other method from the old computer to the new one? I have burnt CD's with my important files which are small...but some of my large files (my download of Silent Hunter 4) are just too big. Just curious if anybody has done this before and what worked best.

Do you have a home network where you can just share folders and transfer that way?

My mom just bought some kind of usb link to transfer stuff from an XP pc to a Vista laptop. She said it worked great and she is computer illiterate. IDK the name, but hopefully that sets you on the right path.

Yeah, something like that would work too...and there are ways to connect two PC's via a crossover cable, I just haven't done it myself so don't know how.

I've always had a home network set up, so I'd just move stuff from one PC to another over my ethernet network. Takes some time, but like Ron Popiel I'd just set it and forget it

you can take the hard drive out of your old computer and buy a external case for it for around $15-$20. Then just plug it in to the new computer via USB.

Thanks guys. I have never had 2 computers set up at the same time so I don't have a home network. The hard drive idea and the USB transfer are the two I will look into.
