Start your own business or google "telecommuter jobs".

Mine. I'm a telecommuter for my employer.

Can't beat the commute or the dress code.

          Take care,

A telecommuter is not a job title. It's someone who works full time in a regular position for a legitimate company from their home.

For example, my occupation is not a Telecommuter. It's a Communications Manager.

By the way, most people who are desperate to work from home probably don't have the discipline to do it. You need to be very focused and disciplined to avoid procrastination through games, TV and also keep focused without supervision and adult, face-to-face interaction.

It's not for everyone. I've done it for 13 years, and I love it. But it's not the paradise that you may think. I work just as hard -- if not harder -- than anyone in my department, but I do it from home. It's not an easy way out. I'm at my desk by 8:30 every morning and in here until 5:30 or 6.

I agree with you on the discipline front, but you also don't lose time in traffic. Some people are in traffic 2 or 3 hours a day not including work.

It takes discipline to get up and go to a job everyday. Its not for everyone, but it wouldn't hurt some companies to make it possible for some of their employees to telecommute 2 or 3 days a week either.

That's true regardless of whether you commute or not. More often than not, time that I would spend in traffic I spend working instead.

my dad has a "home- based" job, though times he does have to travel.. I know when I left my prior job 5 years ago, (call center manager), they were changing staffing from the traditional "call center" to those who worked at home

                        Re: at home jobs

I work in Internal Audit for a major bank. We have the ability to work from most days (as long as we don't have meetings with clients). I don't know of anyone who works at home full time in Internal Audit though.

I don't like to work from home though because I get distracted very easily and it also gets very lonely. But it is very nice to have the option. I've even had my manager TELL me to go work from home in the afternoons sometimes after a meeting! The job definitely isn't that exciting but the flexibility is nice.

                        Thanks,
                        DaHokieBird

I'm actually an IT major. I'm specifically an IT Auditor. We support the regular (accounting) auditors and do all the technical work and what not.
