I do. Heck, I grew up liking the Aztecs for no apparent reason other than living in San Diego. You know, support the local teams.
How many people actually went/go to the school that they cheer for?

Re: How many people actually went/go to the school that they cheer for?
I wonder: what exactly is implied by the word "actually" in this thread's title? For the record, yes, I attend Michigan. But I can't escape the feeling that there's some sort of hidden animosity here toward people who root for schools that they didn't or don't attend.
The reason I bring it up at all is probably because there's a sort of running joke around here that only a fraction of Michigan fans went to school there, and that, for some reason, isn't cool. Usually these are Michigan State fans, who, invariably, went to or go to MSU.
My response in such cases is that, who cares? The only reason MSU fans are pissed about this in the first place is because nobody roots for them except alums. If they too had a national fanbase, I doubt they'd be complaining. Moreover, it's not like I play for the Red Wings. Does that mean I can't root for them?I am become death
Do not underestimate my apathy

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

I did graduate from Michigan, but it gets so f'n annoying to have uppity Michigan State fans go "Uhhh, did you actually go to the school?". When I say yes that'd shut them up for a minute until they go "Haha um still, you have lots of non-school attendee fans, you suck". It's such a big point of contention for Michigan State fans, I guess they think only having alums as fans is true loyalty or something.
It's always their first defense too...drove me nuts, especially if State beat Michigan that fall.Last edited by mgoblue; 11-16-2007, 10:11 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

God, one of the nice things about being away from the state of Michigan...

I attended my school as well. However, I mean I have alot of teams that I like in college athletics, and I didn't attend the 10 or 15 or so schools. lolNCAA Vets League: Arkansas Razorbacks (9-2, 6-1)
MLB OS League: Seattle Mariners (9-2)Comment

Rooted for FSU before, could've gone there, but financially it was wise to go to Rutgers. Now, Rutgers all the way.Comment
