    Holiday Traditions

What does everyone do for thanksgiving and Christmas?

Thanksgiving- Because my parents are divorced me and my brother usually spend thanksgiving with my mom and we do the usual, turkey and everything nothing really special but it's still nice having dinner together.

Christmas- Every year since my parents have been apart me and my brother have gone to New Orleans and had a huge family get together after we go to church. My dad's side is huge so there's always alot of people and great food and just overall fun, even without the presents I would look forward to this day more than any other just for the family. Me and my brother also have our own small tradition of watching Jingle All The Way and The Santa Clause before Christmas. I don't know why it was those movies but one year we watched them and have watched them the same time of year every year.

Thanksgiving - Go to my grandma's house to eat and hang out/watch football. We're ending that tradition this year, it's getting too hard for my grandma to cook and be the host, etc. So next year, we're having Thanksgiving at our house and I think we're going to rotate it each year.

Christmas - Open family gifts in the morning, go to my aunt's house in the afternoon, eat there and open gifts, etc.

Christmas Eve - Put together puzzles with my two sisters. Honestly, I think I've been doing this every Christmas Eve since I was four years old.

They've changed a lot. We used to have really big parties on Thanksgiving and Christmas, but a lot of people in the family don't get along anymore so they've gotten broken up a little.

Thanksgiving used to be at my Grandma's, but since she had a couple of heart attacks other people have had it every year.

We used to go to my other Grandma's on Christmas Eve and that was always great, now we don't really do anything on Christmas Eve. Christmas day we always have at home.

            Thanksgiving - Eat

Christmas - Eat, presents, SNOW WAR (if there's snow), then back in the house for some gaming.

Of course this is an never ending cycle as I make the rounds and repeat all aforementioned tasks.

              Yeah, over time things change...

Thanksgiving used to be at my Aunt's, all my family on my Dad's side would go...once my grandparents passed away, everyone kinda fragmented and each family did their own thing. This is the first year in 5ish that I'll be at my parents for Thanksgiving (now that I live closer to them).

Christmas we used to go to another Aunt's in the morning, then afternoon my Great Grandma on my mom's side...As people die and stuff that all went away, and we started just doing everything Christmas Eve. Now we're actually doing "Christmas" on the 22nd, because my Dad is a teacher so they want to take advantage of his only long break for a while...They're heading to Vegas over Christmas.

Kinda weird, I know, but it works for us....We'll have "A Christmas Story" on while we unwrap fun little stocking stuffer type trinkets. We don't do expensive gifts anymore because odds are if we want something we'd end up getting it ourselves at some point.

Thanksgiving - Head to my aunt's and eat all day, watch some football, and do some homework that I have to get done (BOO!)

Christmas - little different this year since my cousin is expecting her first child 2 weeks before xmas and my dad has to work xmas eve. Probably end up going to my girlfriends for eve and being with her family and then driving down eve night or christmas morning to my cousins to meet up with my family. Open presents on Christmas day, watch the Supes play, and watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation like we do every year.

Thanksgiving - Relax here at home. Since everyone's life is pretty hectic, they'll be coming in on Wednesday and leaving late Thursday. Kinda frustrating, but it's ok.

Christmas - Pretty much like Thanksgiving except everyone's here longer.

Oh, we usually pull a late-nighter playing Trivial Pursuit. Usually guys vs girls which ends up being:

Me, my cousins (24 and 27ish), and my uncle against my mom, my aunt, another aunt (married to the uncle and with the cousins) and my grandmother.

My grandfather is usually just a lifeline for sports questions, but since I've started getting into sports, he's been called less and less.

That is how its with my family as well.

This year we are spending it with my family, my girl friend's family and my buddy from the Marines.

                      Thanksgiving - work

Xmas - oh how it has changed... we used to split Xmas Eve with both sets of grandparents and drive around looking at lights.. but times have changed - one side of my grandparents are gone now, and my other grandparents usually fly to Germany that day.. Now it's just hanging out with my parents & family, then attending midnight service... oh how I wish I could go back in time

Thanksgiving - Me and my brother usually play one of the Thanksgiving day games against each other in Madden. Thanksgiving's usually at one of my aunt's house, I usually just watch the football games and eat.

Christmas - Christmas Eve is either at my house or one of my aunt's house. We exchange gifts around 11 or some time close to that. Then open more presents Christmas morning and then head to one of my other aunt's houses for dinner.

Thanksgiving - my two brothers (both 31) come over, we eat, watch the Lions...sometimes we head out to my uncle's house (about 2 hours away); not sure if we're doing that this year.

Christmas - bah humbug. I am as close to a real life Scrooge as there is.

                            Thanksgiving Eve: Drunk
Thanksgiving: There are 3 houses that usually host Thanksgiving; my parents and two of my cousins. Lions game and Turkey are two constants.

Christmas Eve: Usually spent at a cousins house.

Christmas: Same as above minus the turkey and Lions game as constants. Everyone (on my dad's side) lives within 30 minutes of eachother. Everyonce in awhile we will hang out with my moms side, usually they come up when my parents host. One constant is a birthday cake for my cousin (she stole Jesus' birthday).

We're having Thanksgiving at my house this year. That should be interesting. Watching the football games, then I go to bed around 8pm, wake up around 1 or 2 am. Play video games until 5am and then head out for black friday sales.

Christmas, we have the family over. I put a Big Prime Rib on my Weber Grill around 10:30am, turn it once at 11:30 and then feast at 12:30. Served with a bleu cheese sauce, garlic mashed red potatoes, asparagus, and rolls. Its such a glorious meal. My wife makes a chocolate raspberry cheescake for desert. Same meal every year. I can't wait.
