    Re: College Applications

Assuming that's an unweighted GPA, you should be in fine at USC. I got in as a transfer, but it was after one year of college.

    My scores were:

    HS:
    4.25 weighted GPA
    1300 SAT
A '5' on the AP Calculus Test
No extracurriculars aside from being a ballin *** football player

    College:
    2.7 GPA
    25 credits (including Calc)

Granted, I was WAY out of state, but I doubt that matters too much for private schools.

I wish my family could afford to send me to an undergrad school outside of CA. That would have been ideal.

Been accepted at IU and Purdue and I'm assuming I'll be accepted at OSU.

Probably b/t IU and PU though.

Brockton has the Rox in the summer. They are a nice getaway to watch. Nothing beats minor league baseball in great weather.

But, outside of that, Brockton is not that great. I apologize for those that might live there or are from there but really I can't see how anyone could be proud of that area.

Easton is for rich folk that want to live the rest of their lives in a house or want to be away from Boston. Stonehill is 20 minutes by car from Boston but that's what you're forced into if you go to school there. Like you said, there's nothing to do in Easton. Now, if you like sheep and you desire spending a night with one of them (if that's what floats your boat, I don't know) then you'll love it there.

I only applied to three schools and got into every one. Makes a man feel good to know schools think he's smart enough to be accepted. As for me, I picked the college that gave me the most money... yet I still owe 17,000+ on student loans (that's what private schools will do to your bank account)...

Worst part is the loan people can change the interest rate any time they want. Seems to me they shouldn't be allowed to do so, but what can you do?

                  I applied to:
Hood College (Got in, just applied there because of the name and I got a free application)

                  Bloomsburg University (Got in)
Penn State (Haven't heard back yet)

                  West Chester University (Got in)
Temple University (Haven't heard back yet, 1st choice)

You can find companies that will take the loan and lock in a fixed interest rate that they can never touch.

These people call me all the time. I'm sure they call you.

Only if they're federally insured like Stafford loan, Perkins, etc.

I took a lot of private loans when I was in school (interest rates were around 5.5%) and they've gone up pretty much every quarter since I've graduated. I have about 20k in loans where the interest rates are 10.25% right now and there's absolutely nothing I can do to consolidate them and lower the rates.

Linty, I'm not sure if you meant 17k a year or 17k total, but if you're planning on borrowing 17k a year in private loans I would seriously reconsider going to college. I pay more in student loans than I do in rent right now and I'm not sure college was worth being financially incapacitated for 15 years after graduation.

These companies that offer private student loans might act like they want to help you but all they really care about is taking your money.

It's cool, I've already graduated college. And now I'm a newspaper reporter. Plus it's only 17k total that I still owe in loans. It's just that at any time while paying off these loans they can raise interest rates on it and that pisses me off.

Ahh, gotcha. I hear yah. You don't realize at the time how big of deficit you're putting yourself in. At the time, the interest rates for my loans were around 5% so it seemed pretty reasonable. Now that they're more than double that, not so much.

Yeah same with mine... it started out at 5%.... now they're up to like 7.8%. Actually I have my first loan payment due December 11, it's something I'm not looking forward to at all.
