I almost got blown to pieces tonight.

    Seriously.

I'm online minding my own business when I hear crackling coming from my kitchen. I go to investigate to find my stove on fire.

Really. The stove is on fire and it's not even on.

There's a nice little fire rising higher and higher and it's already burning through my wall.

So I rush to the bathroom and get a large bucket of water and dump the whole thing on my stove. Fire goes down but it won't let up. That fire is coming from inside the stove and something is triggering it.

I try telling my mom to call 911 and she's over here panicking. So I strip the phone from her hand and tell the operator to get me the Fire Dept. They come in about 5 minutes while I sit and watch the fire just do it's thing.

FDNY shuts down my gas and rips my stove away from the wall. The gas man comes about 30 minutes later to check it out and tells me that I had a gas leak inside the stove.

He keeps telling me that I'm lucky that the whole thing didn't just blow up.

    So I'm alive and well.

    That's my experience.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

            Wuss.

I'm gonna light a snake on fire, fill its mouth full of bees, and throw it at you during a tornado.

Can't figure something out with the spider.

Have the spider make a web around the whole thing.

Did they say how it started? Unless the stove was hot, I don't think it would have started a fire, unless something made a spark. Very weird.

What really bothers me is that we've told the Super that our stove needs to be changed. They never care until something bad happens.

Gas man said something about it but I got lost in between his Irish accent and jokes.

I think it was something like the leak's been there for awhile. The gas built up and finally after the stove was turned on earlier today it caused a spark that created the fire.

If having to deal with this made you miss the Knicks game, then I think you should be grateful.

No one mentioned anything like that. I think the Fire Dept. and Gas Man pretty much said it was a chance thing.

I guess from what he was saying, if the fire had continued much longer it could have burnt into the gas line and caused an explosion. Something tells me I wouldn't be the only apartment affected by that.
