    Autozone - free diagnostic testing

My wife's car's "Check Engine" light came on this weekend. I've heard that Autozone will do a diagnostic test for free. Has anybody used this service? Do you need to make an appointment?
    Thanks.

I have never done it myself, but I've always told people that they will pull the code for you for free. I'm pretty sure you can just go in and grab an employee and they'll do it.

Look 'em up and give 'em a call. They would have better answers than what you'll get here.

Even if they don't for whatever reason, there is an easy way to get around it. Buy a product that allows you to read the codes, and ask for help while at the store. They'll help you out and you'll get your code. Then you just return the product for a full refund.

You just go and they do it on the spot. The car will spit out the code and then they will look on a chart to tell you the likely cause of the alert. Very quick service!

Didn't know they do it for free. I bought the tool to do it myself if I ever have to.

I know the Nissan/Infiniti dealer around here charges a crazy $120 just for the test.

yeah they do it for free, had mine done before I made the haul from South Carolina to Texas. It takes maybe 5 minutes at the most and the employee even told me where to take it to get it fixed, and what was the most important of the problems.

yeah they do a good job. If you get a good employee they will even print you out an estimate of the possible issues and what parts you'll need to buy to fix it. Advance Auto does the same thing most times as well.

Thanks everybody. I'm taking it there after work. Hopefully, there's no serious (or expensive) problems.
