    I have always been against the butt pat. Just doesn't seem right and I don't even see how that's comforting to another player.

    I just go with the tap on the batting helmet or a fist five. Sometimes I'll mix in a little forearm action or a pat on the back.

        after a big play my team used to do the side 5 real hard. your hands would be stinging afterward. I remember my hand being sore as hell after making an unassisted double play to end the inning 1 game. My hand was slapped hard as hell by most of the team and I had to lead off the inning. I could barely grip the bat. So I layed down a drag bunt that got passed the pitcher and the 3rd baseman was playing so deep he had no shot. But moral of the story is sont do celebrations that can hurt you because I just flat out lucked out.

            I actually like the side bump when executed gracefully. There are players who just shouldn't do it though.

                        This is a thread? You guys are clueless, I can't believe the "so and so used to do the sidebump" comments. Its apparently way more popular than you know.

                        It's just a natural thing, I was probably doing this 10 years ago. You go for a chest bump but don't actually want to get up in each others grills or hit each other in the face going so fast, so you turn just a little bit to the side. Eventually you just start turning all the way. This way you don't land on each other or knock heads.

                        Don't knock it if you havent played sports and done it.

                            I don't get what the problem with the ***-slap is.

                            I've never done it myself, but I don't see why people have a problem with seeing people comfortable with doing it, doing so.

                            Anyway - I prefer just bumping each other to long, drawn out celebrations. I'm kind of glad the NFL has put some restrictions on celebrations - although, I think they got a little too strict.

                            But I see no problem with ***-slapping or bumping sides.
