    Question about flying

    I was gonna go fly to go stay with my girlfriend and her parents in Pennsylvania on the 27th. For whatever reason, it costs more to fly from Cleveland to Philadelphia directly and Cleveland to Harrisburg directly, than it does to fly from Cleveland to Harrisburg with a layover in Philly. Well, seen as how my g/f is gonna pick me up from the airport, and seen as how both airports are almost the same distance away from her parent's house, I see no real need to wait 4 hours and then fly to Harrisburg. So that raised the question: Is there any major problem with bailing on the 2nd half of a trip, or will they have some major issue with me doing that?

    (And yes, I'm only taking a carry-on bag so I don't have to worry about losing luggage)

    That's weird.

    I don't think it will be a big deal to not go on the second part.

      Re: Question about flying

      I think they will have a problem because it will screw with the passenger manifest. IDK though, I'd call the airline and ask first.

      EDIT: I read it ********.

        The way I read it, it costs say $150 to fly directly to Harrisburg and say $140 to fly directly to Philly. It costs $100 to fly to Harrisburg with a switchover in Philly. He wants to go to Philly and is going to pay $100 to fly to Harrisburg, but just not get on the connecting flight once he lands in Philly.

          Exactly...I don't see why it'd be a problem...They may have an extra seat, but they'll fill it before leaving. Save the cash and do it...it's not like you're breaking the law by not going on a 2nd flight.

            I don't see any problems. If you don't show up, wouldn't they just give your seat away after a certain time before the flight?

              Yeah this is how it works:
              Cleveland ---> Philadelphia = around $150-$175
              Cleveland ---> Harrisburg = $165
              Cleveland ---> Philadelphia (4 hour layover) ---> Harrisburg = $99

              Rather than waiting the 4 hours to back-track 90 miles, I'd rather just leave from Philly's airport and save myself that time.

                Ive heard of one person telling me they were going to do this, and I remember it not working out for him. Somehow he got charged extra I believe. I would check if i were with you. Read the small print.

                  Re: Question about flying

                  I think you should just leave from Philly. Not only is it cheaper, it's the same distance from Philly as from Harrisburg as you stated.

                  But yeah, maybe just mention it to the desk person on your first flight and see what they say.

                    Yeah, that's my main concern. So far from the small print I've read in the e-mail and on the airline's website, there is nothing that indicates that it would be a problem. To me its the same as missing a flight, and you always hear about people missing flights, but you never hear about them getting charged for it.

                    EDIT: And if this helps any, it's only a one-way thing cause I'll be driving back with my girlfriend a week later. I know that if I bailed on a part of a round-trip flight, then they would cancel the other parts, but that isn't a concern here.

                      Re: Question about flying

                      Most airlines have a policy that this is illegal. They would probably end up charging you the full amount.

                          I'd call and check, really. No harm in finding out.

                            Thanks, I'll look around and ask some people I know, see if I can find anything out.

                            You're assuming the person he'll end up talking to knows what they're talking about. From my experience, that's normally not the case.
