I just got my power back on. It's been out for two days and it has sucked!!!!!!.

Oklahoma looks terrible right now. It looks like we got bombed or something. There are trees and powerlines down everywhere.

There are still 500,000 people without power. I don't know how I have electricity, it must be because I live in a heavily populated area with a lot of businesses. I think OGE said they were going to try and restore the backbone of the infrastructure first. Other than that, they said residential areas should expect to be out of power for 8-10 days.

The last few days there hasn't been anywhere to get gas or eat. I have felt like I have been cut off from civilization. It was weird. All I could do was stay at home in my dark, cold house. When driving at night I couldn't see anything except for the occasional tree blocking the road.

It was pitch black. It was really weird since I am used to seeing multiple restaurants, gas stations, businesses, etc.

I was actually very lucky. It stayed warm enough that everything that's come down over the last two days was just rain, and it was warm enough on the ground that it didn't all turn to ice. We had some, but it wasn't near as bad as I was expecting.

I consider myself lucky. I am one of the few people in this area that do have power. Like I said, OGE said that the residential sector should expect outages of 8-10 days.

I woke up Monday Morning and thought the weather guys had overrated the situation. Except for bridges and overpasses, the roads were fine. Ice seemed to have accumulated everywhere else. I didn't think it was a big deal. Later in the day trees started falling, powerlines started going down, etc. That's when I figured out why it was so bad. You don't realize how dangerous it is until you see a tree fall onto the highway when you are driving. You can't walk under a tree, drive under a tree, or park under a tree. If you do drive you have to worry about ice falling off of signs, flying off cars, etc. The ice turns into missles. It's pretty dangerous.

Same way in Greensboro. It's like we have an inch of snow and the schools close, the plows are out. When I lived in West Virginia, it snowed like every day, although not very much at a time. Here it only snows a few times a year, but when we get them, it's usually big!

That's the truth. When I was stationed on Ft. Bragg, it was a shock for me to see the entire city and post basically shut down over 2 days over 2 inches of snow. I couldn't even make a proper snowman with that frost. I don't even want to think about what would happen if Savannah got that much.

In contrast when I was in high school in Detroit, I remember we got almost a foot once and our school was like, "Don't let that stop you." Still had to go to school.

That was the ice storm we were supposed to get, instead the storm came up to Canada with warm weather and produced rain that melted all the snow.

I was banking on a snow day too.

An inch?! Wow that's like nothing up here.

well it's also like 75 degrees here today. We don't really get much if any snowstorms here in the winter. 1 inch makes people go crazy because we just don't see it that often. I even went to college at western carolina university in the mountains, and it snowed like 4 times my whole time there.

They work pretty good Bergie. They are fast, I don't know if you could game on them but they are fast just browsing.

The ice ruined my house, of 60,000 dollars worth of landscaping is gone. We had big bushes lining our back fence and they are all gone, multiple trees. Then the ice started melting and it came inside the house.

I was pretty lucky power was out almost all day Monday but that was the only day, then cable was out all day yesterday and now it just got back. So it could have been worse.

But I just spent all day trying to save a tree. We had to get all the ice of it, then stand it back up, and then prune it so it wouldn't fall back down. We had to do that today because its supposed to snow again pretty soon.

Man, I went without power for 8 days once following hurricane Isabel. Our area of the neighborhood must have been the last place in the country to get power back following the storm. Needless to say, it sucked. No TV, no internet, no nothing. We just bought lots and lots of ice and lots and lots of beer.

Does your home owners insurance help with replacement of landscaping?
