    Anyone take PSATs?

I did not study for these at all and the test was administered the first day back from a 2 week fall break. I also took the math portion without a calculator as well.

    I got a 59 on Critical Reading...good for 85% of juniors.
    I got a 55 on Mathematics...good for 68% of juniors.
    I got a 49 on Writing Skills...good for 62% of juniors

My Selection Score was 163. I scored in the 75th percentile.

    Anyone else take them?

Lots of people tell me that if you just add a zero (such as 163(0)) to your selection score, that it would be a good estimate for the SAT score. Is that true? If so, is that a good score?

Hey bud...I didn't take them, but I teach students who take them. Your score is very high for taking them with no prep at all...that's awesome. When you take the real thing, your score will definitely go up. The one catch with the PSATS is that the grammar section (the sentence correction) is not on the SAT. Instead it is an essay. Most colleges just look at the critical reading and math right now. That may change at some point.

It looks like you're in good shape. I hope that helped you out a bit. Good luck with everything.

      Critical Reading: 58/Higher than 83%
      Mathematics: 70/Higher than 96%
      Writing Skills:69/Higher than 97%

Selection Index of 197, in the 95th percentile.

I also would like to know what the actual meanings of these grades are. I also did not prepare for this test.

          Re: Anyone take PSATs?

It has been a little bit since I took a PSAT (try 4 years) and I did not know people had started studying for these things. I see you guys said you didnt but you must have known someone who did.

And to add a 0 now no sure how that truly translates since a 2400 is the highest so you guys would be at 1630 and 1970. But colleges only look at the big 2.

When we did ours we did it during school. So when everyone got their scores back I didnt get mine. The school lost them but would never confess to it.

I couldve scored a lot higher if i didn't screw around during the test. Yeah I know a ton of people that prepped for them and they scored in the 97th percentile.

****, I sucked then. I bombed the last part, which I guess is OK because it's not on the regular SAT. I got a 148(0) overall, 59th percentile. Without the third one, I would have gotten a 103(0), which is a little more respectable. To my defense though, I had a football game right after and my mind was more on the game then anything. I also did not prepare, but there were PSAT courses some people took.

I dont think anyone studies for these. They are mostly for national merit stuff.

The scores are a bit higher than what your real SATs will be. I got a 233 index score on this crap but just a 2230 on the SAT. The score comparisons between categories are about right though.

Wow, 233? Is that what it takes to get into GT? That is one of the colleges I'm considering. I want to major in computer engineering.

Colleges dont care at all about PSAT. You don't even list it.

I took the PSAT last year and got a 180. My first time I took the SAT, I got a 1840, so it was a pretty good representation, but my 2nd time I got a 2040 after I prepped for it. PSAT is mainly to show you what the SAT is like and for National Merit Scholarships.

I took them this year haha. I am a sophmore and I did really really really good on math and Critical Reading. But for Writing Skills I did horrible.

I got a 217 which was just good enough for me to be a National Merit semifinalist. I got a 2070 on the SAT so I guess the PSAT gives you a decent idea of how you'll do on the SAT.

At the school I went to when I took them a lot of people were studying for them. I didn't even know the day the test was happening until like a week before the test.

                              I'm a sophomore and got
                              critical reading-57, 90%
                              Math- 60, 91%
                              English- 48, 74%
165, 77% out of national juniors
I have never been great at English so that didn't surprise me but i had a span of 5 straight wrong which killed me in it
