    Anyone ever travel to Australia?

The reason I ask is that I leave in January. Considering Im going for a year (for school) I wanted to buy a computer that I could do school, but also use as a TV.

For that reason, I was leaning towards the iMac, 20" because Im tired of laptops (my bro has a Macbook Pro and its sick, just not for me).

Anyways, they weigh about 20". Like, how in the world can I bring this on the plane as a carry-on? Man, I was looking sooo forward to buying this, and I probably wont even get a chance to get one.

Sucks how planes dont let you put things close to your feet.

Hopefully theres a way around this....?

While I can't help you with your carry-on issue, I have been to Australia. Went about 10 years ago and had a blast. Spent a couple weeks in New Zealand and a couple weeks in Australia and I can't wait until I can afford to go back.

I might be going next year or the year after. My fiance wants to go to visit here friend and I said we could take a nice vacation while we're there. I'm just not sure I'll be able to get in a plane for 17 hours without going crazy! Spending 3.5 hours flying down to Mexico for vacation seemed like an eternity to me.

I know, right? I go to europe every year and its 7.5 hours, more or less.

Also, not sure who told you its only 17 hours, but.... brace yourself.... brace yourself.... its actually a full 24 hours, PLUS stops... BRUTAL. Im paying 300$ extra to make sure its a 23-24 hr flight and not a 30hr flight with the stops

It's really not as bad as it seems. My suggestion would be to make sure you have a couple hour layover in LA or SF, wherever you are flying out of, so you can relax and stretch out a little bit.

When I flew out we had a 4-5 hour layover in LA, and it was nice to have so I wasn't on an airplane forever.

Do you know what Airline you want to take? And what city were you planning on flying into?

Like I said, it really wasn't as bad as it sounds, and I can't even sleep on a plane, so I was awake the whole time.

Im going with Qantas or Air New Zealand, but im going for the experience/my Masters, so it wont be a vacation, thats for sure.

But we're getting away from why I started the thread, LOL

The iMac is about 9kg and the limit is 7kg. Do you think they're gonna make a huge deal out of this?

Of course they would make a big deal about it. You most likly can't take it on plane. they will probably think its a bomb or something.

I'd expect them to make a big deal out of it. Just call the airlines and ask.

Qantas - "For bulky baggage that doesn't meet the requirements, you need to get permission at least 2 days in advance."

That to me sounds like you'd be okay, as long as they allow it, and you let them know ahead of time.

                      Code:
                      USA/Canada Open hours: 6.30am-10.30pm 7 days a week MST, 5.30am-9.30pm 7 days a week MDT,
After hours, calls may be diverted to Australia.
                      	1 800 227 4500
For Air New Zealand, it says anything that is over sized must be checked. But here's the number to call. I'd call and ask.

                      Code:
                      1-800-262-1234

Why not buy it online and ship it to your new address. Or FedEx it to yourself? It will be expensive, but worth it IMO.

If you're going for a full year, I'd try this if you can't bring it.

It will be pricey, but I'd say worth it, too.

I've been to Australia by the way. Amazing country. Went to Sidney, Perth, and Melbourne.

I'd advise you check out the aquariums - they have some of the most amazing ones in the world.

And yes, I'm being serious. I saw one punch a little kid out when I was there. Damn near the funniest thing I've ever seen.
