    Re: My Friend Derek died.

My thoughts and condolences go out to Derek's family. Same kinda thing happened to a girl back in my HS days. She was going to school and the car crashed. I believe she wasn't wearing a seatbelt either.

My friend was murdered our senior year; I know how you feel. Just talk about him a lot with friends and the hurt will slowly (very slowly) fade away.

Agreed. It baffles me that people don't wear a seat belt. You are in 2 tons of steel traveling up to 80 mph+. Every single person will be involved in a car accident at some point in their life. Why take the chance? Is the 3 seconds it takes to put it on really that long. I've seen absolutely horrific car accidents were people just get out and walk away because they were buckled up.

It's very sad that his life was cut short and his family will never be the same. It's ever sadder to think he'd almost certainly still be alive with a seat belt on.

I was going 40 mph, guy turns illegally in front of me (he had a flashing red for left hand turns, but didn't see me or something), I plow into his front end....I walk away just sore as hell. If I didn't have my seatbelt on I woulda been jacked up, possibly even going out the windshield. Always wear your seatbelt! Plus this happened the day after I went to the memorial service for a 24 year old college grad who died of leukemia. I felt damn mortal after all that...life can be so fragile.
