Astronomy/Universe: Two old stars giving birth again.

This is big news in the science world as it was originally believed that once a star gives birth to planets the energy necessary to produce those planets becomes obsolete.

However, astronomers have discovered two stars: BP Piscium in the constellation Pisces and TYCHO 4144 329 2, which resides in the constellation Ursa Major, set to produce new planets hundreds of millions of years after forming them.

Goes to show that we still aren't even close to figuring out our universe.

"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Very cool. I usually try and hit up space.com a couple of times a week to see what is going on. Hadn't visited in a couple of weeks. I've always been fascinated by this kind of stuff.

Damn, I don't understand anything in the field of astronomy. It's a shame is what it is.
Cost of Super Bowl XLII ticket -$750
Trip from NYC to Glendale, Arizona -$650
      Vintage Eli Manning jersey -$230
Picturing the faces of Chargers' fans and certain studio analysts as they watch Eli play in the Super Bowl XLII from their respective homes, or for some - a television studio - Priceless.

Has anyone ever heard about the electric universe theory?

It completely goes against the theory of black holes and how scientists have explained how things such as the shape of galaxies and how you see different nebulas have shapes.

Its actually pretty interesting. It takes awhile to understand but by the time you finish a couple of videos you see how it works and its kinda of mind blowing

Basically alot of what they say is dark matter, dark energy, black holes, the polar rings on Saturn etc.. is actually all affected by the gases and the objects magnetic fields.

I thought this thread was about older Hollywood types having babies and, being that they might be later-age hippies, named their kids "astronomy" and "universe".

          I really did.

The universe is just mind boggling. It really is amazing what we don't know.

I consider myself to be a bit of an amateur astronomer. I love learning new things about the universe.

I think everyone owes it to themselves to learn more about it where we came from and where we're going. I hope we never stop exploring the cosmos.

I used to want to be an astronaut as a kid until I saw the Challenger blow up

True story, but I never stopped enjoying learning about the universe. I dont believe in the big bang theory as is, but it doesn't stop me from listening to what scientists have to say.

Im almost more inclined to believe the Magnetic Field theory than some of this other stuff. It sounded crazy at first until I watched those 3 videos and its amazing how they show you everything

Why don't you believe in the Big Bang Theory? Its pretty much been proven at this point.

Dude, you're seriously going to follow up mentioning the Challenger disaster with a laughing emoticon?

Anyway, I'm also fascinated by astronomy. I'm always wondering what's out there waiting to be discovered.

The challenger incident is not funny... I'm laughing at myself. I do see how it could look bad but it wasnt meant to be that way. I mean that killed a dream I had as a kid. Crazy part is it ended up happening again...very sad days especially since we were even more sensitive to deaths back then.
