Pretty big life changing moment for me...

Alright OS'ers...some people have opened about some personal things and I figured I might as well join the club.

I have a pretty bad deviated septum. The inside of my nose is quite messed up and I can't really breath out of my right nostril. To add to that you'll see in the pic below that I also have a bump on my nose that is pretty damn noticeable. As Mya would say...it's "like whoa". Alright that was terrible but anyways....to the point:

I'm getting rhinoplasty (nose surgery) next friday, February the 8th, 2 days after turning 23, whooooooooooooooooo

I'm pretty nervous at this time just wondering what the outcome is going to be. If anyone knows somebody who has had this procedure before please chime in with some advice.

If you have a horror story keep it to yourself!!!!!!

I'm not worried about the pain or anything it's just leaving my appearance up to a doc. Oh man

And yea I have a really big head...it's so damn long

I'll post pictures after the procedure as well and have some comparison pics. Also I'll show some recovery pics!!! Oh man!!!!!!!!!

Just to show how I feel at the moment...and man it looks so messed up!

      Good luck
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

        I had a turbinectomy/septioplasty two years ago.

        Have fun with the recovery.

How'd that go? It can't be any worse than having my tonsils out...at age 21. Worst experience of my life.

What type of time frame is there for recovery? Were you able to do activities i.e. lift?

Thanks for the good luck wishes.

Good luck man, but why do they call it rhinoplasty, looking at a rhino, i think someone with a nose problem the last thing they want to think about is a damn rhino. Hope every thing turns out well and that you dont come out looking like a rhino.

I'm pretty sure rhino means nose

I'm just hoping I don't come out looking like this...

Dude you have nuts posting pics like that in here. Good thing OS is a cool community, and nobody is going to make any nose jokes....

Anyway good luck, ive seen taht stuff done on TV and they just knock the **** out of your nose when your out. It looks painful and im sure its going to hurt alot after. I reccomend doubling whatever your Doc says to take for painkillers. But dont go all you know who on me now.

Good luck, intrested to see the after pics of that shnaze.

Good luck with that man. Our punter here got his nose shattered last off-season and had to have surgery. They had to stuff guaze(sp?) up his nose to keep its shape.

I had the same procedure done after getting hit with a baseball. Actually, I had 2 surgeries done because the first wasn't enough to correct the deviated septum.

The 2nd surgery went much better than the first (considering I woke up in the first!). The worst part is the odd feeling when they pull the packing out of your nose. It doesn't hurt, it just feels odd.

Anyhow, good luck. Don't worry too much about it as it's not too bad.

One of my good friends had it done this year. He only missed a day (and the weekend). I'm not sure if it was Rhinoplasty, but I know he couldn't breathe well so he got something fixed so he could. His nose shape hasn't changed (noticeably, at least); it's still huge.

                        I wouldn't be too worried.

Yea I wouldn't post this elsewhere. OS is a mature site and the people are very respectful. Plus it never hurts to just see if anyone has experienced something like this and the can give helpful advice or put me at ease...like the next post.

Believe it or not I haven't gotten made fun of for my nose my entire life. I've dated good looking girls...nobody really even notices. Girls say it's cute...I'm like you're crazy.

And yes...I have seen the shows where they destroy my nose...oh boy.

I'm hoping for just 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've heard about follow ups but man I want only one sooo bad. I've already had the packing once when I was a kid...I had this surgery before.

Was yours an open or closed surgery? Mine is going to be open...hooray! [/sarcasm]

They are going to pretty much cut the bottom of my nose and lift it up and work from under the hood. They are going to fix the inside and shave off the bump I have on top. They are even going to put in a graft using the cartilage on top of nose to the front. They have to shave stuff off the inside too...when I say it's messed up it's messed up.

There is going to be a huge change with mine.

Oh yea and my doc told me my nose was small. It actually will be once the bump is gone...that's why he's putting the graft near the tip of my nose...to help it out structurally.

It should only take 1. The reason mine took 2 is the first surgeon didn't do a great job. Basically, I still had trouble breathing from one nostril after he was done. The second surgeon was very good.

I'm not sure I know the difference between the open and closed. I assume it was closed since they didn't lift any skin.
