Tax Write off Questions
My wife uses her personal car for work. Probably 90% of the car use is for work. She is a Physical Therapists and drives from patients home to patient home all day every day. Her work pays her for mileage. Am I allowed to write off her car note or a percentage of it since it's used for work?My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Tax Write off Questions
Well if she is being reimbursed by your employer, I don't think you can. The reason being that the $0.485/mile she is (supposed to be) reimbursed for, is deductible and is supposed to cover more than just gas. However since her employer pays for it, they get to deduct it.Listen to some of my covers:

Re: Tax Write off Questions
You can always add up the real expenses and see if they exceed the amount you are reimbursed. You could deduct the excess expenses. Doubtful you will have any above the reimbursement, but you would also need to have the documnetation.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Tax Write off Questions
That was my understanding and the reason I didn't write anything off last year. I was thinking about the depreciation of the car. I guess this write off is more for people who own their own business.Well if she is being reimbursed by your employer, I don't think you can. Re: Tax Write off Questions
Well it is, but your wife could do it if she wasn't reimbursed. Like was mentioned before also, you could deduct the difference over the reimbursement, but you'd have to have the documentation.Listen to some of my covers:

Re: Tax Write off Questions
she gets .37 per mile. Now she works at another place that doesn't pay her. She's driving roughly 6 hours per week ath the other place. Not sure if it is even enough to figure up. Do you know if there is a minimum amount of $$ it has to be to write it off? If there isn't a minimum it would be easy to figure up 6 hours per week..My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Tax Write off Questions
The IRS allows deductions of 48.5 cents per mile driven. If you kept track of the miles, and the reimbursement forms for the employer that gave .37 per mile, I believe you could deduct the difference. As for the one that doesn't reimburse her, you could keep track of the mileage and likely deduct the entire 48.5 cents per mile.she gets .37 per mile. This is all off the top of my head, so you may want to look into it more somewhere else, but if you really can't find anything, I could do some research for you sometime this weekend when I have time available.Listen to some of my covers:

We didn't keep track of the place that pays her. But did for the place that doesn't. So I will definitely write that off. Just making sure I write everything off possible that I am allowed. No need to look it up. I use Turbo Tax normally and I believe it explains that if I remember correctly. Thanks for the help.
