Anyways fast forward to today. I live in Greenfield, MA, a small town in Northern Massachusetts. Snow removal is up to the residents. Today we had snow mixed with rain that turned everything into one large pile of ice, ice that you can't even begin to penetrate with a shovel. There is going to be no way to get rid of it. It is only there right now because the town plows put it there, yet it is our problem to deal with. How is that even remotely just? They caused the problem that there is no way to take care of it for the average resident, yet now we'll get fined because the snow can't be physically removed. I pay my taxes, how is it not the responsibility of the town, who is better equipped than I or any other resident besides the Hospital (who has a team of 10-15 people who remove snow) to take care of this mess that they created?
I really hate this town. It was run by complete morons. The school is facing a severe deficit right now which means guess what, I get to pay more taxes for my non-existent children to attend a school they would not attend even if they existed. When it could in fact be fixed by a school tax of $275/child. The town is beyond corrupt, yet the same old tired regime keeps getting voted back in.
God I hate this town.
Anyway now to the amusing story I said was coming. Lets go back to 1993 during the storm of the century. We had just finished shoveling out our driveway when the sidewalk plow comes back and destroys hours of work. As the jerk who is driving it is doing this he is actually laughing at people. My mother called the Mayor's office and complained. Within 30 minutes said jackass was at our house shoveling our driveway out from the mess he created and took pleasure in doing so. I guess that type of responsibility for the actions of municipal employees only exists in Vermont. I never thought I'd say it, but god I miss Vermont.
