Man, today was scary.
Sitting in third people, which happens to be AP Government, at the end of class they said we won't be dismissing to 4th period and will stay in our 3rd period class. We will also go to lockdown (which is close/lock all doors, turn off lights and get out of view of the little window on the door), yet we won't turn off the lights or get out of view of the window.
Immediately, I got a bit nervous and was thinking about the NIU shooting. 5 minutes later they dismiss us.
The weird thing is no administrators openly told anyone why. Rumors were going around that the police were doing a widespread drug check (with K9's and whatnot). It was a legitimate concern because they had just done the same thing at the other two HS's in the district. However, that idea was abandoned because the drug searches took way longer. Then I heard that another HS's student had threatened to come to our school because we had just won the state indoor track and field championship because of some official rulings that the other HS had cheated (within a race which disqualified them for that race and eventually created the 1 point edge we needed to win).
So, being the investigative reporter that I am (I'm not), I get some friends of mine to ask around. We ask one administrator and two teachers. The administrator said, "Oh there was a threat of an intruder but it's all right, nothing to worry about." Another teacher says, "It was just an incident." And finally, my math teacher says the same thing as the administrator.
So, just the threat of an intruder? I don't know any other details. I wish the school would tell us the full story. Serious threat or not, I have the right to know especially so shortly after a deadly shooting at NIU.
