    High school wrestling?

Hey, I cover high school sports for the Boston Globe and love it. But I've never covered wrestling and I've been assigned to cover the All-State tournament tommorow in Salem, Mass. Any advice on anything to look out for or anything quirky about the sport I may have trouble picking up on?

Yep and addition to that, alot of it is about desire. The best looking guy may not be the best. I was never as good at it as I should have been as I was much stronger than everyone I faced but really didn't have any passion for the sport.

Wrestling at the high school level can be very explosive, you'll see points racked up in the blink of an eye sometimes. It is a sport that is self driven, you're out there on the mat by yourself.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

at the state level, pins don't happen that much unless by fluke, so keep your eye on the score.

Also, say John Smith wins the state title at 130, take note of his path to get there. Did he beat a former state champ to get there, has he faced any of those guys before, etc.?
