High school wrestling?
Hey, I cover high school sports for the Boston Globe and love it. But I've never covered wrestling and I've been assigned to cover the All-State tournament tommorow in Salem, Mass. Any advice on anything to look out for or anything quirky about the sport I may have trouble picking up on?Tags: None -

But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Wrestling at the high school level can be very explosive, you'll see points racked up in the blink of an eye sometimes. It is a sport that is self driven, you're out there on the mat by yourself.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Also, say John Smith wins the state title at 130, take note of his path to get there. Did he beat a former state champ to get there, has he faced any of those guys before, etc.?Lux y VeritasComment
