    Free Credit Report Scam

So about a week ago, I signed up for a free credit report (the one in the commercials) because I figured it was legit so I got that checked.

Well I just went online to check my account and I've been charged $14.95 for no reason at all. I'm so mad right now.

I'm currently on hold with the bank trying to get this taken off, hopefully it works.

Anyone else had any trouble with this kind of stuff and how'd you go about dealing with it? I don't want them to keep charging me and from other sites, it seems damn near impossible reaching these sites to cancel your account.

I've also been charged the $14.95. I don't mind because I want to maintain an acct with them so that I can keep tabs on my credit score.

14.95 is a small price to pay so you don't end up selling fish to tourists in t-shirts.

It's not a scam, you just need to read more carefully.

If you want a site that just gives you the 3 free annual reports by law, then go to annualcreditreport.com. It's set up by the three reporting agencies to comply with the law, so you will get what you are looking for with no credit cards involved.

It's not a scam... all of those places charge a fee after the trial period. Most have a month, some have less. Either way if you don't cancel within the period, they will charge you.

So will this be a one time charge or will they keep popping up?

Just talked about this tonight with my girlfriend. She said her brother signed up for this and they kept charging him and charging him and it turned into this huge problem. Just remember...nothing is ever free!

Apparently this site had a month free trial, then you'd get billed.

Well, I signed up for this thing less than a week ago and yet they've already charged me. I have to find a way to get that charge taken off.

Call them. There's a number, email address, and mailing address on the "contact us" page. Tell them you want to close your account. It's not that hard. Tell your bank you want the charge dropped as you didn't expect to be charged until after a month. They may not drop the charge, but you will avoid the monthly fee.

Not sure why anybody would use these sites. Everyone is entitled to an ACTUAL free credit report once a year.

actually it can happen from annualcreditreport when you access the Experian page, if you happen to click the wrong link when you pay to actually see your credit score. You just gotta be really careful.

But it's not a scam. You get a free credit report, not a free credit score. Freecreditreport.com basically just signs you up for the credit score service right away. You can pay for a credit score at the annualcreditreport.com site, but the reports are free.
