Wow. That's impressive! I saw a couple during my stints in Kuwait and Balad, but none like that.

I'll say one thing about Balad. Considering what's been going on over there, they know how to make a deployment enjoyable! That base is hooked UP!

When were you there? I didn't think the base was bad, but people make the deployment. The mortars kinda sucked though.

I was thinking that, thats what I would do, but then again in some of those pics it doesn't seem they all made it inside.

I'm sure that's a really nutty thing to see though. I appears to be overwhelming... couple that with the fact that its most likely HOT air blowing it doesn't make for a pleasant thing to get caught in.

We had one hit when we where driving to Sinjar. Sucks because we had to stop the convoy and wait for it to pass through. It wasn`t like we didn`t stop enough already becasue of the trucks being garbage. that was the worst one i could remember. before it hit the sky got really orange

Summer of '04 for me. The mortars were more of an inconvenience than anything else for me. They always happened around meal times, so the already full chow hall was even worse.

I worked in the thunderdome though, so the worst we ever got it was when a dud rocket came through our roof. That was freaky...

LOL. I know its not funny, but I heard about that when I got there. I worked on the flight line, so I was a little more fearful of them, and had a couple close calls. Its really like the golden BB theory, but I'm unlucky.

Hm, looks like a sand storm in Lubbock, TX. I mean, maybe not QUITE that bad but still.
