Anyone take in a stray cat before?
If so, how did the transition from stray cat to house cat go? We have this cat that has been hanging outside our house for a while and he's recently gotten really friendly. He's an awesome looking cat (all black with yellow eyes, and his tail is cropped for whatever reason, but its cool). Me & a couple of my housemates wouldn't mind getting him neutered and getting him the shots and stuff he needs, and then keeping him. Obviously that is gonna take some cash (I have generous, animal loving parents and a sister the same way), but we would like an awesome cat like himTags: None -
Re: Anyone take in a stray cat before?
My grandma took in a stray cat when I was a little kid (actually my cousin's idea, but that's a different story), and it didn't turn out too well. Meanest cat I've ever been around, simply would not let anyone pet it or even get near it. It was always kept outside though, so we never really tried to bring it into the house. Still, it never warmed up to people.
My mom has a cat now that was abused/stray when we got him. It's turned out to be a great house cat, very nice and people friendly. Couldn't ask for a better cat. He gets a lot more attention and care than the other cat my grandma had, I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. -

Re: Anyone take in a stray cat before?
My wife found 2 kittens in a box near her school. We brought them home and fed them. We kept them away from our cats (both adopted from shelters) to prevent any diseases from spreading (and from our cats getting pissed off). We had a Cavs playoff party that weekend and a couple of our friends adopted the kittens. One of the kittens was put to sleep because he had feline AIDS, but the other one is healthy and happy almost a year later.
As for adopting a stray, one of our cats was a pregnant stray when she was brought into the shelter. She is the nicest cat you'll ever meet, but she was in the shelter for 2 years, so that may have taken out the "street" cat in her.Comment

Re: Anyone take in a stray cat before?
All the cats we had/have were strays at one point. Got them from a shelter, but they were all street cats once and they all are super friendly to everyone. I say go for it.

My cat, we got her at 2 weeks old 4 years ago from a co-worker of my wife. She was healthy for the most part just infested with fleas. We were told she was spayed too. That was a lie. Here she is pms'ing!

Re: Anyone take in a stray cat before?
I would only take in a kitten. Grown cats would be a big "no" to me.
I still regret to this day of not taking in this stray black kitten that was outside my door. It was meowing all night and scratching up on the door. I gave it a little water and this was the most docile little thing. But I wasn't in the right situation to take on a cat. Eventually, later that day, one of the maintenance guys that work at my apartment building picked up the cat and took it to the other building. Probably gave it to an elderly woman in there. God, I still feel bad for not taking that kitten in.Comment
